Hi,
I am sorry that I forgot to mention this before.
I have tested this laptop with an external monitor while doing all the tests.
I could not get a VGA signal at all!
Does it mean that a malfunctioning VGA chip is the cause to this?
Thank you

However, the solution is the same regardless of whether it is the motherboard or video card and that is replace the motherboard.

Getting a new notebook is certainly an option and the better option as it would be all new hardware with a one year warranty out of the box.
However, you might look into getting a price quote from a local PC shop and weigh that against the cost and benefits of a new notebook. I'm not saying getting it repaired is the better option, but it might turn out to be cheaper than one would think depending on your area.

Well I have seen similar models going for around AUD 110 (which has been used as display models) and I don't think repair cost of replacing the MB would be chaper.....
But thanks a lot for your time and effort.
Really appreciate it!
