How exactly to I access this on microsoft updates? Should I be looking in Windows Updates in the control panel? There wasn't anything that was from ATI. Is it possible that the update is no longer available? Thanks!
I have been having that same driver problem with my HP Envy 14, and I would love to find the microsoft update

i have a HP Pavilion dv6-3160us, im looking to do a custom driver update for it. i read this whole forum and it doesnt look like ive read one (if i missed it, sorry). i read on leshcat, that is for driver update for intel integrated cards, mine isnt that. under device manager it says AMD M880G with ATI mobility radeon HD 4250 and the other is the actual graphics chip ATI Moblility Radeon HD 5650. so im looking for a driver to update past the 9/19/2010 driver. thank you for any help.

I believe the drivers are now installable without doing any custom mods to the package like we used to have to. I recently updated mine from the amd website (search for drivers via the drop down list on top right of page) and I'm on catalyst 13.xx. Just go to the amd website and try from there. Report back here if it doesn't work.
Also, in the past 2 installs I've done windows told me the windows installation service froze and the completion bar also froze, but after pressing cancel on the windows popup it finished installing just fine. Good luck.

i have tried that, the driver kinda works. in device manager it changes it from how it was to something like mobility radeon hd series 5500/5600/5700 then shows the yellow triangle exclimation point on the 4250 saying there is an error turning off. the fan then picks up louder than before idling than it did when playing a graphic game like splinter cell conviction. puts out more heat idle than before also. the vision control center doesnt show it either, says it doesnt detect compatible driver/ card. so i cant change setting there.

Preston
is there any way I can get a hold of your 11.8 modded drivers? I' have an hp envy using the hd 5650 ati switchable graphics card i bought in 2010. I've tried a variety of things to update drivers and none have worked or produced stable results.

@Argumus I wish I knew how to help out more. You're correct in that these newer drivers change your device (in device manager) from Radeon HD 5650 to AMD Radeon HD 6500M/5600/5700 Series. Are you able to disable your other card (the 4250) so that just the 5650 is running? I may be misunderstanding something here. Our problem was occurring because of the intel integrated video chip with switchable graphics. I notice from your post that yours is different. Kind of strange that you have two AMD vid cards rather than a crappier intel one that's just integrated by default.
@jonathan11 I still have the 11.8 modded file that Preston made a while back if you want it. I don't know how to PM on this website so you'll have to provide an email address or something and I can give you a dropbox link. As mentioned however, you should be able to just download the latest driver from the AMD site and install like a normal driver. It doesn't stop you at the beginning of the install anymore like the older AMD drivers would (because of switchable graphics). I'm currently on the driver (number:13.101.0.0 date: 5/23/2013) that came with the file "AMD Catalyst 13.6 Mobility Beta" directly pulled from the AMD website.

I have the same HP that Argumus has. Both are ATI/AMD cards, but one is an integrated card and one is the Mobility Radeon 5650. I believe this is because we/I went with an AMD Proccessor, so of course Intel would not be involved.
When I try to install the drivers direct from AMD my system also places a yellow "!" on the integrated card, does not let me access the CCC, and games hardly work at all.
