And if it goes wrong you can still revert back using the Windows.old folder

By the way, I know this is an old post, but anyone else have success with this method?

I used the suggestion posted by "msddjd" and found it worked perfectly. Thank you. However after installing Windows 10 the sound card wouldn't work. After all this frustration I went back to Windows 7. I would suggest to anyone interested that a computer older than 6 or 7 years originally with Windows Vista might not be a good candidate for Windows10.

Well, my dv6500 didn't have working internal speaker sound so I didn't really care.

I had the exact same problem. The solution fixed the video card, but I too had no sound under Windows 10.

I gave up and reverted back to Windows 7.

Have either of you tried getting the latest drivers from the HP support page? I'm not sure if it

''ll work since mine didn't have working sound from the internal speakers in the first place.

Don't give up! First of all  I want to thank you for telling the people, wich graphics driver fits for the dv6500 under Win 10. I also found a solution for the not working sound under Win 10 with my dv6500.

First of all windows automatically installs a not working sound driver. All you have to do is to go to the device manager. Select the sound-device. Windows found a Conexant driver for it. Than select "update drivers" or "install drivers" (I have the german version, so I do not know the correct name of the buttons). Than select "choose driver from list". In this list there are two or three drivers including the Conexant driver. But you have to select the generic driver "high definition audio device" or something like that. That's almost all! Than you have to prevent windows 10 form updating drivers automatically. Please search google for that. Finally you have to reboot your computer.

Cool, someone please test this!
