Hello,
I am facing problem with my laptop's microphone.
While using Skype, I am able to hear voice from the other person, but my voice cannot be heard on the other side. I also did the mic test on Skype wherein you have to speak and Skype records the voice and plays it back. In that it is conveying me the message to check your microphone because there is some problem.
Kindly help me out with the issue.
Model: HP Pavilion dv6700
Product Number: KN947UA#ABA
Windows 7 Ultimate
64 bit operating system.

You stated the microphone worked in the Echo test, but then mention it didn't work with the headset on. Was this a different microphone or did it work and then stop working again?
Do you mean the microphone works, but you don't hear it through the headphones and that there is no audio at all through the headphones?
Does Skype show the headphone as the output instead of speakers?
If you disconnect the headset and use the built in mic of the system, does the sound work then?

I understand your microphone is not working in Skype.
What is the product number?
NOTE: Do NOT provide the serial number.
Does it work if you use Windows Sound Recorder to test the microphone as outlined towards the bottom of the following document?

The sound recorder records my voice through the speaker and from the headset as well. The built-in speaker is responding well and it appears to me that there is some problem with Skype.
I tried checking the echo test on Skype with and without headset, the outcome was same; Skype tells me to check my microphone.
I don't know, the microphone seems to be working fine while recording sound using sound recorder, but it just does not respond while using Skype.
Please help me out.
Thanks and regards,

It does appear to be isolated to Skype and not a hardware issue.
In Skype, go to Tools>Options>Audio Settings. What microphone is selected?

What happens if you change it to the second one? Changing it shouldn't cause the other to disappear in Skype. Not certain why skype is detecting two of them.
By chance, have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype?

Just to verify, was the microphone accidentally muted at any point in Skype?
Since uninstalling and reinstalling Skype didn't work, try the Skype FixIt listed below. I'm not certain if it will fix it, but it is designed to help with various sound issues in Skype.

After running the fixit, built-in microphone has started working. I tested by using the Echo sound test on Skype and it is responding quite well now. The problem now is, it does not respond while my headset is on. I am unable to hear from the headset nor my voice is going through the microphone.
I don't know if the setting for using the headset is different.
Many thanks for the FIXIT information, atleast I am able to use Skype now.
Waiting for your reply.
