HP ProBook 450 G1
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Using the HP installation discs for Windows 7 64 bit Professional o/s and applications & drivers disc that came with my HP 450G1 ProBook I performed a fresh install on that laptop.  It now can not connect to the internet for starters except possibly by dial up which I do not have.  Device Manager says that I do not have drivers for 1.) Ethernet Controller, 2.) Network Controller, 3.) PCI Device, 4.) PCI Simple Communications Controller, 5.) Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, 6.)  Unknown Device.

What specific drivers do I need and where can I go to get them and how do I install them on the laptop?

Hi:

You need these drivers...

1.) Ethernet Controller:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_143277_1

2.) Network Controller:  Please post the hardware ID for that device since there can be one of may different wireless cards HP could have installed in your notebook.  See how to find the ID after I post the links to the rest of the drivers you need.

3.) PCI Device:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_146748_1

4.) PCI Simple Communications Controller:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5405424&swItemId=ob_146774_1&swEnvOid=405...

5.) Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_161275_1

6.)  Unknown Device:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5405424&swItemId=ob_127112_1&swEnvOid=405...

To find the hardware ID, please do the following...

Go to the device manager and find the device listed as a Network Controller

This should be listed under an Other Devices category, and it will have a little yellow triangle next to it with a ! mark.

Click on the Network Controller device, and then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller device window.

Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description.

Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

The  6.)  Unknown Device previously mentioned is described by Device Manager as: "ACP\HPQ6007,  *HPQ6007".   All the others only have the generic description shown.

The first line under Network Controller reads:

"PCI\VEN_186C&DEV_0036&SUNSYS_18E3103C&REV_01"

So I assume I down load these driver files onto a thumb drive with annother computer then copy them onto the HP450G1 laptop.  To what location/directory must these driver files be copied to on the hard drive?

Other digging around indicates they should go to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository but looks like drivers are then located in a specific complexly named folder and I have no clue as to the correct folder name(s) for the drivers I need to install .  Interesting that in the previous Windows install there were 687 foilders and new install 668 folders.  I considered just replacing all 668 new File Repository file folders with the 687 old File Repository file folders saved under Windows .old during the fresh install.  In laymens theory if this did not work the new install file folders could be returned to the new install File Repository.   Would this be a good or bad idea?

Hi:

You need this driver for the ID you posted.

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5405166&swItemId=ob_148180_1&swEnvOid=405...

You will also need this bluetooth driver for the atheros wireless card.

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5405166&swItemId=ob_126765_1&swEnvOid=405...

What I usually do is to copy the files to a flash drive and either run them directly from the flash drive, or copy them to my user profile's download folder and run them from there.

Make sure you plug the drive into one of the USB2 ports because until the USB3 driver I posted for you is installed, the USB3 ports won't work.

It doesn't really matter where you copy them to because when you run them they all extract to C:\SWSetup\sp#####

On the windows.old folder, the only folders I ever copy are my user profile folders (documents, downloads, favorites, pictures, etc.)

If you never copied the swsetup folder from your original HP installation, you should copy that to a portable hard drive because that folder may contain some program installation files that cannot be downloaded from your PC's support page.

It is not necessary to retain that on the hard drive and it does take up a fairm amount of space.

You can also delete the swsetup folder that is created after you have installed all of the drivers.

3.) PCI Device:

When I begin installation it lists

PREREQUISITES:

-MEDIA CARD NEEDS TO BE INSERTED IN THE MEDIA CARD READER TO PREFORM SSM iNSTALL.

Do I need to copy the driver installer file onto a SD card to correctly accomplish the installation of this driver?

HP Recommended

Hi:

You are not doing a SSM install.  Just run the driver without the sd card installed in the reader.

The HP System Software Manager (SSM) is a utility that automatically detects and updates BIOS, device drivers, and management agent versions on your networked PCs.

You are doing a plain old manual install of each individual driver.

All six drivers installed.  One additional driver issue I did not mention previously (low priority) is one of two display adapters shown in Device Manager...

Display Adapters/Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6600&SUBSYS_1947103C&REV_00
