I was having this problem. Windows 8, HP ENVY purchased in June. After restarts or shut downs, finger scanner and a USB port weren't booting up.
I went into device settings, and no biometric devices were detected. I did notice a chipset that was showing issues. (yellow triangle with asterics.) I tried updating drivers, no luck. These drivers were updated with last automatic update. So I rolled back the drivers, problem solved. The finger scanner started right up, but I havent tried that USB port yet.
UPDATE: I've confirmed that the usb port that was not turning on was related to that same chipset driver. Apparently on the envy, the finger scanner is on the same chipset as the right side USB on the right side of the computer. (the one which isn't an SS port.)
Anyway, the driver rollback fixed that issue as well.

It will not accept my fingerprint logging into my desktop. And my windows log in in simplepass states "does not match". How do I check my "Set Up Window Login" to see what the password is, and do I have to rescan my finger.
Thanks
