I had the same problem as not getting the fingerprint reader to work. But what I did to make it work was:

  1. go to control panel
  2. select Biometric Devices
  3. select properties
  4. click on change settings
  5. go to the Driver tab
  6. click Disable, then enable

Hope this helps

I had tried that without success. However, thank you for your interest! I'll keep searching.

shut off your laptop. Then take out the battery, put it back in, and turn your laptop back on. It worked for me on the first try.

For Windows 8. If Simple Pass is not working, just go to Hp down load sight and download and install drivers for finger scanner. After it works send feedback to {Personal Information Removed}

I had the same problem with you and it was fixed

Here are the steps:

-shut down your computer

-turn it back on and keep pressing F11 key until it pops out a message about restoring your file

-pick the very top left box

-you will see a list of updating stuffs, date & time, select the day that is around 2 weeks before you have the problem,( for longer list, check mark the very bottom line if needed)

-choose next and keep going until your computer is showing a status like "restoring files", let it run and it will take about 10mins, then even in the end it says complete or incomplete, simply choose yes

-your computer will show "starting window" and the light should flash again on the finger scanning place, it may forgot your window password so just simply type it again for log on window

-computer will ask you to restart, do it and it should work fine

HI

I had this same issue this morning with my ENVY dv6-7200ea Notebook. Yesterday all was well then this morning I switched the Notebook on and the fingerprint reader just wouldn't work - no lights or anything. I tried reboooting, it made no difference. I shut the laptop down, disconnected it from the power and removed the battery then left it for 5 minutes before reinstalling the battery and rebooting the laptop still it made no difference. I then checked for checked for Windows updates and there was a new one - "Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2822241)" which I downloaded and installed. The fingerprint reader and HP Simplepass now work fine.

I tried...and tried again x 4 uninstalling, installing and rebooting my pavilion dv6. Still can't get fingerprint reader to work 😞

Wondering if it is because I may be outdated with the drivers? I am getting frustrated but not desperate as this is a feature that makes my life easy...not an esential item.

hello katenottage,

I see that you are having problems with the fingerprint reader on your computer. I would like to help with this issue but I need some information.

Can you provide the model and product number of the computer? Here is a link that shows how to find that information.
