Hello,

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a dv6 Pavillion. Today I've been continuously seeing this pop up in the corner. HPSA STAHP.jpg

I've restarted multiple times and it pops right back up after the reboot.

I've also tried installing the latest HPSA {Version 6.x} and it still does this.

What do?

Thanks.

Hello Codge.

Have you only had problems opening HP Support Assistant after the update?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling HP Support Assistant.

  1. Click your Start button.
  2. Type "uninstall a program" and press Enter.
  3. Locate HP Support Assistant, right click, and select "Uninstall."
  4. Download the latest version from this site.
  5. Reinstall HP Support Assistant.
  6. Reboot the PC and attempt to disable the pop-up notifications once more.

Yep same issue here. If you get a resolution to this I'd love to hear it. DV6

Hello cakedispensary and Codge.  I understand that you're both having issues related to constant pop-ups from HP Support Assistant.  Is this correct?

To disable the pop-up notifications please do the following.

  1. Open HP Support Assistant
  2. In the bottom left hand corner you will see "settings," select that.
  3. Once you are in the settings menu chose the "Notifications settings" section.
  4. Change this to "taskbar only" and apply this change.
  5. Let me know if this resolves the issue.

After you change this setting you will, obviously, not get any further pop up notifications letting you know you have available updates.  You will need to find HP Support Assistant in the taskbar, in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop, and check to see if updates are available.

I hope this information is helpful!

When I try to open HP support assistant, the only thing that seems to happen is the pop-up reappears. Even after I postpone the restart that it wants to do and the pop-up closes trying to open HP Support assistant only brings the pop-up back. As such I have no way to access the settings and alter the notifications.

I think that support assistant has recently undergone an update as this problem is relatively recent.

Reinstalling the version of Support Assistant that you linked to has fixed my issue. I had tried to download a version from the support page for my notebook - dv6-6024tx HPSA Ver 6.1.12.1 but it stated that the current version that was giving me trouble was more recent. However the version you provided seems to be more recent again and sorted things out. Cheers!

have the same issue except with dv7.  Any suggestions?  HP Support Assistant was updated on 11/17/2012 to version 7.0.39.15 .  If that helps.

I was having the same problem and the solution provided worked! I would still like to know what caused the problem in the first place.

After re-installing the tool, it stops popping up BUT once you go in the assistant and set again to download automaticly updates (or even manually) it starts all over again ! I had to totally de-install it agan to make sure it doesn't pop up. so no more using assistant now.
