I have the HP System Recovery USB drive and am attempting to run it on my laptop. I followed the directions and made it through the following:
-Turn off computer
-Put in USB
-Restart computer and press ESC repeatedly
-Press F9 to select the boot option
Then when I get to the next window I'm supposed to use the down arrow to select the UEFI DVD/USB source, but that's not an option. I only have the option for CD/DVD. And when I select the CD/DVD option, nothing happens. The Files on the USB are accessible, I can view them. But I don't know how to run the recovery process. The directions say I'm supposed to have a pop up window that guides me through the steps.

Is the HP System Recovery USB drive you are referring to, created by HP at the factory or is it one you created with the HP Recovery media creator?

It is a factory manufactured USB. It came with instructions that tell me to select the CD/DVD option, and a page of FAQs that tells me to select the UEFI DVD/USB option. But this UEFI DVD/USB option is not given by my computer when I run through the boot menu.

Are you plugging it into a USB 2.0 port or a usb 3.0 port?
Use the USB 2.0 option for recovery media.
Have you already saved any data you do not want to lose?
From a powered off system
Plug the recovery flash drive into a USB 2.0 port
Press the power button
Now start tapping the F9 key for boot options.
You should see the USB flash drive as an option.
Choose the number for the drive that the USB flash drive is related to.
The drive should boot and invoke the HP Recovery manager.
Choose your desired recovery type and then commit to the recovery.
