Hi, my HP TrueVision HD web camera stopped working a week ago. My laptop is HP Pavilion dv6-6179er Entertainment Notebook PC series. Its model number is QA398EA. Product number: QA398EA#ACB. Operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1. When web cam failed to work on my Skype I have downloaded Youcam, but it did not detect the camera as well. So, neither Skype nor Youcam can see the camera on my laptop. When I looked through Device Manager it appeared that Imaging Devices category had disappeared from the list of Device Manager. I tried to shutdown laptop, remove the battery and press the on/off button for 10 sec as was instructed in this web-site. However, Imaging Devices didn't show up. When I click on Add Legacy Hardware (in Action menu of Device Manager) Imaging Devices appear in the list. However, computer doesn't detect the TrueVision HD driver, it detects some other irrelevant driver and associate it with Imaging Device. Looks like either of two options: either web camera driver has been deleted from the computer or some hardware issue with the camera. Is there any way I could download HP TrueVision HD camera driver into my computer to see if it is driver issue or hardware? Appreciate your help in advance. Thanks.

Hi Rufat,
The generic Webcam driver is part of the operating system and not available for download. It sounds like this is a hardware issue with the Webcam. I would recommend that you have a local technician or call HP. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

I saw your post regarding the problems with the webcam and I will be happy to help. In your Device Manager to do you notice any device with a yellow exclamation mark? Here is an HP support document Webcam Troubleshooting. There is no actual webcam driver it is a generic Windows driver.

Hi BHK6,
1) In your Device Manager to do you notice any device with a yellow exclamation mark? - No, there is no any device with a yellow exclamation mark. All devices work properly apart from Imaging Devices which has actually disappeared from the list of Device Manager.
2) Here is an HP support document Webcam Troubleshooting. - I have gone through this troubleshooting but could not make web cam work.
3) There is no actual webcam driver it is a generic Windows driver. - In this case, how can I download this generic Windows driver. Is it available through website? I tried to restore my Windows to earlier date, but with no success. For some reason the early dates are limited to last week only, and I could not find much earlier dates for system restoration.
Thanks for support.
