Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I've just purchased a HP Reverb G2 second hand, I had a go with it on the sellers pc so I know it's working as it should.

My Asus P8Z77 V pro motherboard only has 2 USB 3 ports, one is an intel USB 3 port and the other is an asmedia USB 3 port.

I've tried the headset in both ports and I'm getting hp reverb g2 error 7-14.

Does anyone have this headset working on an old Asus P8Z77 V pro motherboard please.

It should work considering the USB ports are 3.0. Try installing the newest USB driver for your motherboard from ASUS' website.

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/usb30/Asmedia_USB3_V116351.zip

To install, unzip the folder and run setup.exe or asussetup.exe

And the most recent bios

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1155/P8Z77-V_PRO/P8Z77-V-PRO-ASUS-2104.zip

unzip the folder and put it on a usb or follow this guide https://www.asus.com/en/support/FAQ/1008859/

If this fails, there may be hope, HP's first revision of the G2 (G2 rev 1) had a cable issue that caused error 7-14 on many systems (mostly amd though), some systems worked, others didn't. This was resolved in rev 2. If your cable includes a small button on the rectangular hub, you have the rev 2 cable. It's very likely the cable was ok with the seller's system, but due to compatibility issues, it simply didn't work on your system. If you have a rev 1 cable, you can contact support and provide them with the very small warranty code that you see on the headset when you take off the facial interface. (Should start with 8CC) If you tell them you have an issue with the cable, they will very likely send you a new one free of charge. The cable issue was very bad for HP's reputation, and they have been heavily trying to inform as many support people as possible to make sure it gets resolved properly.

Hi thanks for the reply,

I have since spoken to hp support about this issue, they also suggested that the rev 2 cable would most likely fix my problem, I was told that they would send me a link to be able to purchase the rev 2 cable, that link dropped in my email box yesterday, but I was severley disappointed as they want £108 for it, and yet on hp website the cable is listed as £58 out of stock.

Obviously trying to get me to pay for some of the free cables they've been sending out.

They should provide you the cable for free if you have a valid warranty. If they insist, you might just wanna ask to get escalated since you have the right to that cable. Did they tell you why they were charging you for it?

I purchased the Reverb G2 used and its out of warranty, I would be happy to pay £58 although I feel that is expensive for a cable, but £108 thats daylight robbery.

The Reverb worked fine on the sellers machine, so I know it's my pc that is the problem.

Even though it's used, that doesn't mean the warranty is invalidated. The Reverb has a standard warranty of 3 years, so there's no way you do not have access to warranty. Also, the old cable revision that you have may have worked for the seller, but due to the way it was built, it didn't work with all systems. The cable isn't broken but you do have the right to a new one, even if it's used and technically still worked. An official statement by HP said everyone with a valid warranty is eligible for a new cable if it doesn't work with their system. Considering you have a serial number and warranty lasts 3 years, there is no way you don't have warranty and can't get that cable. Contact support and give them your warranty code.

Thanks for the reply.

Whilst I was on the phone to the rep, he sent me a text message link that opened up a live camera feed.

He had me scan the serial code on the box and the serial code on the headset.

He told me that it was no longer in warranty.

I will ask the seller to confirm how old the unit is, I some how think that they haven't been around for 3 years.

Hm, technically there is a possibility he got his Reverb G2 as a replacement for a Reverb G1.

Due to the bad cable design failing on the Reverb G1, I was able to get a Reverb G2 as a replacement, it could be possible that you recieved a G2 that was covered under G1 warranty. Personally, my warranty has run out now as well.

Ok, thanks.

I will ask the chap I purchased it from how old the Reverb G2 is and if he purchased it new or got it as a replacement unit for a G1.

Once I have that information I will contact support again and air my disappointment at Being asked to pay £108 when some are getting them free, and try and get some discount, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Hey,

I received my new HP Reverb G2 last week and I am working hard to get it working in DCS (SteamVR version).
