A million thanks for taking the time out to write this!

A big vote of thanks to Mikying and Sheperdess for their helpful posts. I followed the route outlined by Sheperdess, but did encounter a couple of glitches. Firstly, there was a choice of 2 drivers on the HP website - sp68116 and sp68117 - I opted for the latter.

During installation I was warned that my laptop already had newer drivers than I was proposing to install (it was running Windows basic drivers at the time), but I went ahead anyway.

On rebooting, I still got the igfxtray error, but on rebooting a second time, the error had stopped. Knowing that my drivers were now older than the originals. I tried the "Update Driver" option, but was informed by Windows that I already had the best dirvers for my system - go figure.

I now have no igfxtray module in the system tray, but I do have the equivalet icon on the desktop, I thank I'll leave it at that.

Have new Envy and have same problem.  HP...WAKE-UP!

As near as I can tell this is only an icon loaded in the tray to take one to the Intel graphics card.  Everything else on the computer seems to work.

Very frustrating that HP lets this go on so long.

Purchased my HP Envy in January 2015 and received this error message on initial startup. Read all the suggestions here, but was afraid to try removing drivers on my own. Instead I used the HP support chat service. The HP technician took control (with my permission) of the screen and did all the work while I watched. It was a fairly technical and complex fix that took about 15 minutes including two reboots. When the computer rebooted, the tech was already there ready to continue once the startup finished. He fixed the problem, patiently waited for one more boot to make sure the error message was gone, and then offered to call me back in 1 hour to see if everything was still OK. Cannot recommend this service enough.  Very surpisingly good service from HP. This is my first HP because I always heard bad things about their service, but their obviouly working on fixing it. Not sure if this service is available if your computer isn't in warranty. Perhaps for a fee, but still worth it.
