Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Four weeks ago, HP Support Assistant notified me of BIOS update for my machine, so I followed instructions and installed.

Unfortunately I have been having major problems since then.

(1) Ordinarily I connect to the Internet via a UMTS modem (HUAWEI E3531, HiLink mobile software). Since BIOS update, connection only stays on for between 1 second and 15 minutes, then disconnects for up to 5 minutes, then tries to reconnect, endlessly. Very bad for working and doing research online!

(2) Before my CPU would typically run around 107 degrees Celsius, now typically 127 °C and as much as 132 °C (!!) Very bad for lifetime of computer. (Both temperature readings according to Speccy.)

Steps I have taken to try and remedy the problem:

(1) Use Windows System Restore to roll back. This had no effect at all. Not even an error message in Event Viewer.

(2) On start-up of computer, go into System Settings via F10 function key, select Rollback BIOS Update. This fails with error message about some signature missing.

(3) From HP website, download and execute previous BIOS version SP67954. This, too, fails with error about missing signature.

BIOS version is 68CPE Ver. F.60, I want to restore back to Ver. F.50.

Windows 7 64-bit Professional.

Press the power button and then tap the Esc key to access the startmenu.

Press the F2 key to invoke the UEFI Diagnostics.

In the Diagnostics menu look for the firmware management option and select it.

In the BIOS Management menu that appears choose BIOS rollback.

The BIOS Rollback option should be available since you have updated the BIOS.

No, this does not solve my problem.

I already described what happens in item (2) of the steps I took to remedy the problem.

To be precise, after attempted BIOS rollback a screen appears with these two sentences:

The System BIOS rollback failed.

Unable to open BIOS Signature file.

Is somebody working on my help request? An update (such as "have escalated your request to HP staff, waiting on response") would be nice. Yesterday the CPU temperature went up to 142 degrees Celsius!!! This is unacceptable. The fan is NOT broken. It is quiet when the computer starts up, then speeds up and slows down and speeds up again ... and after about half an hour or so, it keeps running at maximum speed all the time. Also I can feel the hot air coming out of the ventilation grille.

Is your notebook still in warranty?

Hi @Docofossor ,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

@george-p I have received a private forum message from HP staff and have replied also via private forum message.

@erico I purchased the computer new 11 months ago so I should have 13 months warranty left, right?

HOWEVER-- I would really prefer to try everything else first before sending it in for warranty repair. I run a very small one-person business and am reliant on this computer. Please let me know if I may supply additional information such as log files, Event Viewer messages, whatever, that will help to solve this problem.

Any Update on this i am wondering if your solution would work for the issue i am having on my friends computer i am trying to fix. He installed windows 10 and i think he wiped the hptools partition and then his bios became corruped some how. so i downloaded the bios to a flash drive and i tried all 3 versions of the bios on the downloads site from a flash drive and it gives me

"system bios recovery failed

unable to open bios signature file"
