This horizontal dotted line has appeared across my screen. It doesn't show when connected to an external monitor so it is definitely a problem with the screen. Is there any solution to this other than changing the screen?

Hi there @Oddred,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.

I understand that there is a horizontal line across the display. I am happy to help with this. Please post the full product number for your notebook. See the following, if you need help with that information. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Is the horizontal line always in the exact same location, or does it move to a different position every time you start up?

If it never moves, then it is almost certainly a hardware issue. If the location changes, then it is possibly more of a conflict between the driver and this display, or something to do with the physical connection to the board.

It still would not hurt to make sure you have the latest HP driver installed. Also you can look at these pages:

My laptop model number is B6V04PA#UUF.

The lines don't move. Is there any way to solve this without changing the screen?

@Oddred,

Thanks for the additional information. If you haven't already, you can try the most recent drivers from thesupport page: HP Pavilion dv4-5110tx Entertainment Notebook PC

Also go through that other troubleshooting I linked before, and you can also try screening your system for malicious software.

HP PCs - Resolving and Preventing Viruses on Your Computer (Windows 7, Vista, XP)

Also you can use this: HP Pavilion dv4 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide to inspect the display and if necessary remove it to inspect for anything that may be out of place, or applying pressure on the display that could be causing the line.  If none of that works, then you will have to replace the display to get rid of the line.

Did you ever get this issue resolved?

I just had this exact same problem occur on my HP TouchSmart and wanted to know if you found it to be a software or hardware issue.

No I didn't. The issue is a hardware issue and needs the screen to be replaced.
