I recently set up a new modem and router capable of using 5GHz. However, my Probook isn't detecting the network. My adapter is an Atheros that is 802.11b/g/n compatible; from what I have read, this indicates that my computer is capable of receiving a 5GHz signal. How can I enable this feature on my Probook?

Hi:
There are many 4540s' with different product numbers, which means they all have different options.
Most likely your 4540s only has a single band wireless card.
If you let me know what model wireless card your notebook has, I will let you know if it is a single or dual band card.
It it is not connecting to the 5 GHz band, I can almost assure you it is a single band (2.4 GHz) wireless card only.

That is a aftermarket upgrade that gives you 5g band. By factory default your wifi is 2.4g only. Getting 2.4/5g is dual band and most laptop don't come with this option you must order it installed to get this option if that care is available to your laptop model.

BTW, Millions of folks have gone back from Win10 to their prior O/S -- something you don't hear about from MS. by WAWood but ALL to TRUE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Those that want HD Gaming should plan to invest in a Gaming Laptop to handle those requirements. Eamples GTA V or Crysis 3.
