Simple workaround. Get a usb to SD card adapter. It will boot from that. Not aware of too many laptops that will boot from the cardreader.

The Dell laptop I got in the end allows you to boot from the SD card, so no reason why HP won't allow you to do the same.

You're saying that the laptop boots from the SD Card while it's in the internal reader and not in an adapter?

Yeah mate @tdrixx. I can boot from the built in card reader. In fact I've copied my Windows recovery media onto an SD card
