Is there a way to change the F1-F12 keys so they are the standard keys (refresh, etc...) again? I find that even in my full screen game mode I am not able to bind those keys for the game.

Ok this is driving me nuts. I'm thinking about returning my Compaq CQ56 right now.
I managed to disable most of the buttons by renaming AppKey to AppKeyx like suggested in this thread (thank you). However, the Print button is still working. Any idea how to fix this one?
Also, it would be awesome if we could replace the dead keys with TAB, CTRL, SHIFT (etc) you know, LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Hi
Just used the procmon and found next regkey
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey
Delete the content and just disable the power dvd like was explained here before.

Did anyone come across a better option than editing the registry manually?
I am not a big fan of such self-made corrections (bad experiences in the past) and wonder if maybe HP came up with some solution.
The "HP quick launch" software does not seem to be of any help or related to those annoying buttons at all (although description on the download site implies.

Go to the start bar in Windows 7, type “regedit” and press enter. If you’re unfamiliar with the Windows registry then please be careful, messing with values here can cause a lot of errors.
Navigate to the registry folder:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey
In the folder you’ll see more folders, the three we care about are:
- 15 calls for the Assocation of mailto
- 16 calls for the Assocation of .cda
- 7 calls for the Assocation of http (opens the browser or program associated with http)
- 17 calls for a ShellExecute of ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
- 18 calls for the Assocation of calc.exe
These are the mail, CD, Internet, Print, Calculator buttons respectively.
If you want to change them, simply modify the values inside each folder. Association will open the program that is tied to the protocol or file type. ShellExecute on the other hand is the same as typing something into Run and pressing enter.
An example: Let’s say you want the mail button to open Notepad: Go into the folder named 15, rename “Association” to “ShellExecute”, double click ShellExecute to modify the key’s data and enter “notepad.exe”, replacing “mailto.”
Want to disable a button? Just clear out the ShellExecute or Association data. For the mail button you would double click the Association and replace “mailto” with nothing.

DLow solution mostly works. i have power dvd 9 on my computer, and i had to disable it by changing the name of the program from
PowerDVD9
to
PowerDVD9_original
that appently is enough tostop the dvd key from working.
after doing that, the only things that still works for me at the moment is the print key, which is kind of useful and doesnt work in my video games.

Hey there
I have a problem that some time ago I modified my quick launch buttons in the registry. I changed the calc button and the media button. I changed the media button to winamp and it worked very well. Now it has stopped working. I checked my registry entry and it was still ok. (I know that the media button is in a different place in the registry. Maybe it has to do with it.)
I dont know what the problem could be. Every other button still works. I tried qpremapper, it worked for all the other buttons except for the media button. when i press it nothing happens.
please help
I have g62 with win 7 64bit on it.
thanks
edit: i found a key tweak program in an envy forum. here http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-systems-and/Envy-15-windows-7-64bit-quick-launch-but...
i entered into teach mode. it recognised my other buttons except for the media button. it was like my button was dead. maybe its hardware problem?

Quick Launch left buttons.
The DLow REGEDIT fix (03/14/2011) requires login with Admin permission before starting REGEDIT. DLow says you can simply make the subject of each registry entry have no value to disable these. On my G62 that turns off the Quick Launch keys at the left side for Email, Internet, and Calculator, but it leaves the DVD burner and printer keys working despite no value to associate or shellscript. I renamed the DVD burner executable and corrected the menu shortcuts to point to the new name. That solves the keys I care about. The printer dialog can be cancelled with ESC, since gaming isn't my concern here.
Action top buttons.
The Top row Action F# keys are a different problem because they replace normal buttons, with a need to use FN shift to get the normal keystroke, plus I do still want the Action for at least Wireless toggling. You can switch FN shift to more reasonable behavior. To fix the Action keys...
Hit F10 during reboot and the third choice down in the BIOS should be DISABLED. This changes F1..F12 to normal function by default, but leaves the Action function (F4 Screen / Projector toggle or F11 Wireless toggle) available with FN shift. This doesn't disable Action functions, just requires FN shift to make them act.
Here is the whole dialog, including link to a solution page.
The solution page can also be found with Google for “disable fn key hp”
