I'm having this problem, as well, with my Pavilion dv6-6c10us Entertainment PC with and AMD Radeon graphics card.  If I boot my laptop in safe mode, the display will work.  It then begins the Windows boot with the Windows name on the laptop display and the actual login on the external display, and I can't get the laptop display to work at all.  It suddenly went black.  There were Windows application updates to all types of Office products that day, but I don't see any installation of a new graphics driver, and I hadn't installed one.

I'm confused by the fix that worked for dancepic.  Which graphics driver do you remove?  I presume I'm removing the driver listed under display adapter, but I don't understand how that could cause an issue if the driver is dated 2011:  Graphics Driver.PNG

I really appreciate the help with this.  I really don't want to buy another laptop right now, and I'm sure after seeing this forum that there is a fix.  Thank you!

I see that there is a 11/18/2011 driver although the version number is the same. Do I uninstall the 9/28 driver and then update it with the 11/18 driver?

Finally fixed it... Not quite sure how... Uninstalled it and it automatically, eventually, somehow installed a previous version of the driver.  Although they are both old drivers, this one seems to work.  What a nightmare.  😞
