Pavilion g7
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I got this laptop for my husband used.  The girl (our daughter) can't remember the password.  So the thing is locked and doesn't even have startup button to set up another account.  I don't want to do a factory reset.  She asked for a chance to get important pics off first.

We were going to make a reset disc but it keeps saying the flash drive was corrupt.

Ideas on how to do this would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hi @rocky4,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from the post that you are having issues logging into Windows. Don't worry I'll try my best to help you with this,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Can you login to the computer with another local User account?

Have you tried to boot into safe mode?

After reviewing your post, I see that you would like to retrieve your pictures before performing a System recovery. In this scenario, as you haven't created a reset password disk. the only option would be to boot the computer into safe mode and Select the default Administrator account from the login, the password
can be blank. If you are lucky and passed the login, then you should be able to edit your original account.

Option 2 Recover Windows 7 Password using CMD command line
Step 1: Logon your Windows as administrator(You also can logon Safe Mode with Command Prompt, pressing F8 when to restart your computer, hit up/down key to choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt and hit Enter).
Step 2: Click on Start, type cmd in the Run box or Search box and press Enter.
Step 3: Type net user, all user accounts on your computer will be listed.
Step 4: Type net user "UserName" "NewPassword"(replace UerName and NewPassword with yours), press Enter, then the password will be reset as a new one and you can login Windows 7 with it.

If nothing works, the only option would be to perform a system recovery using the partition available on your PC.

Doing this will wipe off everything and set the computer back to the original factory conditions. So, please remember to back up your data before initiating system recovery. If for some reason the recovery fails. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone numberCase number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Keep me posted for any other assistance,
