I think Apple and Sony jointly own the rights to firewire and nobody likes to pay royalties. Firewire is gone from Lenovos and Toshibas and Acers, too. That is why I keep my Thinkpad T400...almost 3 years old but by golly it has a firewire port an expresscard and a cardbus. I will keep it running as long as I can.

That's the worst thing for someone who buys a laptop with plans to capture from cameras via firewire and is healy invested in Firewire hardware.

What were they thinking?  There are too many firewire products to abandon it so soon.

I know the feeling as well!I have the exact same HP Pavillion dv7 laptop, and no fire-wire port andno slot to plun in an adapter! Ididn't originally purchase my computer for recording with fire-wire, so I'm not completly disappointed' however, once i bought a Presonus Studio Live digital mixer, I was happy knowing that there were adapters for fire-wire available, but then found out there's no slot on mine either for this adapter! I'm now in the market for a MacBook Pro soon! I do have a iMac 27" for at home, but not wanting to lug that around,,,LOL!
