This is a {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} RUBBISH! My warranty has expired a week ago. Now I need to live with a broken sound card. Nice job HP.
This is my second HP notebook and probably the last. I will never buy HP products again. This company it's simply a rubbish! They will clean your pocket and tell you bye bye after a year. Madness.

I tried all the blowing and gently poking with cotton bud stick etc and nothing fixed the problem. I tried a Linux Live CD and I reinstalled Windows 7 from scratch - still exactly the same.
So the only way I can currently hear the speakers after a restart is by using the "Microphone > Listen to this device" trick.
I updated my macro script (fixaudio.vbs) to play a sound after the change was made so I could hear if the fix was successful. I have a shortcut on my desktop. Here's the code for fixaudio.vbs:
Dim Wsh Set Wsh = Wscript.CreateObject("Wscript.Shell") do Wsh.Run "control.exe mmsys.cpl,,recording" WScript.Sleep 1000 Wsh.SendKeys "{TAB}{TAB}{TAB}{TAB}" WScript.Sleep 800 Wsh.SendKeys "{DOWN}{DOWN} " WScript.Sleep 700 Wsh.SendKeys "^{TAB} {ENTER}{ESC}" cmd = """C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"" /play /close ""c:\windows\media\tada.wav""" Wsh.run cmd, 0, False WScript.Sleep 2000 if msgbox ("Did you hear the sound?", 4, "Sound Check") = 6 then exit do end if loop

Thanks a lot DK. Rolling back driver resolved my problem of no sound from speakers of Altec Lansing from my laptop Touchsmart tm2 - 2102 TU. Hearing the sound after 2 days of trying everything was of so much relief, although it appears as if the sound has degraded a bit in overall volume (may be just a perception!).
Thanks a lot again 🙂 !!!

HP and just about every other Brand name computer company does the same thing.
Basically they have lazy people running the input on their website in their support section for drivers and manuals.
Several times I have had to look for a device driver that went corrupt from a Windows or HP update and the driver for that device under the download page for the computer model I was searching for is wrong.
Example:
The latest problem I had was with the IDT audio driver for my laptop computer.
This is the service package download on the HP drivers page for that computer that they say is correct for my laptop.
They give:
I am aware that they contanty give wrong drivers to down load so I searched the website and found a list of IDT audio drivers:
The one that worked from this link above is:
Now it maybe one stops working because you or HP or even Windows updated it and while it was updating you self corrupted it thinking it locked up the computer because the audio driver install takes a long time to install and then wants you to reboot the computer after. That reboot when shutting down is very long also and most users get tired of waiting or think the computer has locked up and turn off the computer which will corrupt the install.
Almost 99.9% of these issue are caused by the user and impatience.
It could also be that one of those drivers above may have worked before a Windows service pack was installed and now the other works after the service pack installed but the first one will not work now and the HP website data input people for that update missed putting the new update in the drivers page for your computer.
One more reminder the IDT audio driver takes a very long time to install, be patient and wait for it to install and restart the computer.

Thank you. It worked. Even after rolling back driver, there was momentarily interupption in audio services and after cleaning the jack port, speakers are working fine till date. And, now jack connection is only shown while headphone is connected.
Thanks for your post.

Hello all,
I'm here to join the community of the mysterious "sound" issues on HP laptops. My issue started yesterday evening on 10/09/2012 between 6:30 pm & 8pm. I wanted to record a rehearsal session of my wife's band and my preferred recording software is Audacity. The last time I recorded I used the "Internal Mic" but the sound is too airy or open due to the mic picking up any and every sound in the environment. This time, I wanted to use the external mic so I can have the input go directly through the singer' microphones which goes through the mixer and from the mixer into the laptop's mic input. With the input wire plugged into the laptop, I have to go to "Audacity" to monitor the volume meter to ensure that the computer was receiving the signal and that sound was being heard in the program before I hit record. I had to change the "Record Playback" from the "Internal Mic" to the "External Mic" on the laptop's sound settings and had to do the same for "Audacity" and finally I saw the VU meter move so I'm like, "GREAT! WE CAN BEGIN!" Then in a moment later, I noticed the VU meter not moving anymore so I started playing with the settings and to no avail, no signal. I even hit record just to see if the program was hearing something but the display only showed a flatline.
So wanting to record SOMETHING, I decided to record from the "Internal Mic" and pfffff..... NOTHING.. Now being a computer guy, I had a dumb look on my face. So I went to youtube and played a video and GUESS WHAT.... No.. I'll wait, guess.....
You got it! NO SOUND!
So here's the thing, all the recommended fixes that I've seen posted, been there done that and none of those fixes will fix my problem and all the suggestions was the first thing I did being an IT guy. What I do notice is that on the volume slider when you click on the speaker icon on the taskbar, I do see the green bar/ VU Meter go up an down as if there's sound playing which it is yet no sound. What I also noticed is that now the "Internal Mic" doesn't pick up any sound at all. Usually that mic is jumping all around being that it's picking up all sounds in the environment since the mic is on the laptop itself. I've restored, updated, removed drivers to let window reinstall, reset, shut down, etc. I even tried taking the headphone/mic jack and shoving it in & out repeatedly in hopes it was a contact pin on the inside of the jack that dissengages the speakers when headphones are plugged in but, I wasn't using the headphone's jack. I do think's it's a hardware issue, maybe the sound being inputted was too loud, which I don't think that could be the issue.
As a test, I took a guitar amp and my headphones and plugged them into the mic jack and hear a very fast clicking, I'm not sure if it means anything but thought that it's worth noting since it could narrow down the possiblities.
My machine is a HP Pavilion g7-1237 dx with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
4 GB memory, 64-bit machine, AMD A4-3300M APU w/ Radeon HD Graphics 1.90GHz
If anyone else has had the same issue and found a fix, I thank you in advance! This is why I like building my own machines.

Hi,
I'm having same issue but my "rollback" option is greyed out and will not let me choose that option. I have tried all other items on this thread...
audio just stopped working this morning, worked fine last night.

Can someone explain how this trick makes them work and does my PC have a hardware or software fault? Very confused.....
