I may have a solution for you. If your machine is like mine, you more than likely have a BIOS update that has screwed this up. In my case, HPSA has prompted me to update my BIOS several time in the last two years. I backdated my BIOS to what is called for on the HP Support web site and low and behold. Everything is working perfectly. So, I would check what version BIOS you are using and go from there. From reading this forum, several threads relate to HPSA not playing well when it comes to updating the BIOS. I've learned my lesson and won't allow that to happen any more.

Thanks. I'll try to backdate the BIOS. BTW, the original problem (the reason I wanted the GUI diagnostics) was that the battery was not charging. I bought a new battery and it still wouldn't charge. I took it for repairs and there was a problem on the motherboard which needed to be replaced. That cost me $300. The computer itself was 2 years old.
If what you say is correct, then HP needs to fix HPSA. Any update suggested by the HPSA should improve the computer not make it worse.

When it comes to HPSA, I've learned to use it like I do my GPS. I do NOT follow it blindly any more but it's a 'nice to have' reference.
