I would leave the latest driver installed.
Sometimes that happens and I don't know why.
That same thing keeps happening to me on my HP 8200 Elite CMT desktop PC.
I install the latest driver from Intel and then Windows Update tells me there is a driver update for my intel ethernet adapter which is an older version.
I just hid the update.
If the latest driver is working fine for you, then let sleeping dogs lie.

Hi Paul,
Sorry for replying to u so late. For last few days i am unable to login to Hp Support forum between 9pm and 6am IST, Every time same error use to display between these hrs "HPP services is not working, Please try again later".
As per our last discussion i have installed
1) Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection v15.8.0 from Intel installed Driver + Intel Proset Wireless software. as per our last discussion Ignored wireless spxxxx.exe from hp website and chose to install from Intel website.
Was curious to know about what Proset software does, etc. I am not expert in networking. Most of the stuff i dint understands at all. Therefore just want your view on it -- do i need to change any settings after i have installed it to make wireless more secure? At present i have turn off ssid broadcast and security set to WPA2-Personal.
While installing this update there were some additional thing i saw that it installed some new features like high speed Bluetooth were installing.
Shall i keep Intel Proset Wireless or do i delete it? Most of the things i don’t understand at all. So i thought to delete it, just want ur view on it. or guide me then i will keep it if is helpful.
2) Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (Chipset INF) v9.4.0.1017 from Intel.
3) Hp Quick Launch v3.7 (6310) and it updates to v3.7 (7508) -- i.e. Wikipedia were right about 7508. After that installed Hp quick Launch Buttons sp49456.exe v6.50.18.1
4) Software support for HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology for Microsoft Windows 7
Here are the details mentioned in device manager before installing sp47022.exe
Bluetooth Radios
HP Integrated Bluetooth module
USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D&REV_0100
USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
BTH\MS_BTHBRB
-------------------------------------------------------------------
File name: sp47022.exe Version: 7 (22 Jan 2010)
Supported Devices and Features
USB\VID_03F0&PID_231D="HP Integrated module with Bluetooth wireless technology"
USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D="HP Integrated module with Bluetooth 2.1 wireless technology" USB\VID_03F0&PID_2A1D="HP Integrated module with Bluetooth 2.1 wireless technology"
Therefore proceeded with this file sp47022.exe which has Bluetooth 2.1 wireless technology.
After installing sp47022.exe i just checked in Device manager it shows.
Bluetooth Radios
HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless Technology.
USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D&REV_0100
USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
BTH\MS_BTHBRB
-------------------------------------------------------------------
But it shows Bluetooth 2.0 wireless technology, whereas sp47022 says bluetooth 2.1 wireless technology. if i uninstall intel proset wireless software then will i get bluetooth 2.1?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) HP Wireless Assistant sp49018.exe v3.50.12.1 (2 Jun 2010) i just want to check wheather it will work or not. It installed fine but noticed that when i click on "turn all off" but the status still remain green tick mark and ON. If i switch wireless button off then the status and action is set to off. when i click on "turn all ON" then status or action doesn’t change at all. Even though the wireless is connected to the internet But it shows turn ON.
I am not sure whether there is bug in hp wireless assistant or it is uncomfortable with Intel Proset Wireless Software or latest hp wireless assistant is not supported to this model?
Even i have installed previus version i.e. sp44700 v3.50.9.1 (23 Jul 2009) but similar problem issue like above.
Therefore uninstalled both the version of Hp Wireless Assistant.
So what is ur opinion of this hp wireless assistant. Shall i keep this version (i.e. sp49018 or sp44700) of HP W/A and uninstall Intel Proset Wireless Software or vice versa?
I know it is not important but it is good idea to turn of the device when not in use rather than turning off in device manager, etc
So what is ur opinion on this how to fix it.
6) last few weeks, experiencing some keys are not working for few mins and after that it works fine. keys are g,h,n,m,6,7,t,y,shift,etc. i have also cleaned the keyboard with mini vaccuum keyboard. It works fine and sometimes these keys doesnt work for few mins. I also checked this with a Keyboard Test software and found which keys are not working. Do u have any solution on this.

Hi:
I don't use the proset software.
If you let windows manager your wireless connections, then it is not necessary to have and I would uninstall it.
Can't help with the keyboard issue. I have never messed with keyboards.
Wireless Assistant...If you can't get it to work right, then I would uninstall it.
Maybe try the Vista version on your PC's support and driver page if you have not done so already.
I would create a restore point and try the updated graphics driver. Having the latest graphics driver is normally the best thing.
I installed the Net Framework 4 and the Office File Validation tool on all of my W7 PC's.
I have had no ill effects from them.
I would not install Net Framework 4 on a PC using XP.
I did once and the boot time of my XP PC slowed to a crawl.
But Net Framework 4 works just fine on Vista and W7.
In case you are interested, this is what Net Framework is.
