I have been having intermittent issues with my keyboard and mouse.  I have an HP ProBook S-Series 4530s.  My caps lock key will reverse so that when I have it on it will only type lower case and when it is off it types in upper.  My shift key doesn't work during this time as well as my 10 key number pad, period, comma and backslash keys only work for the symbols on the same keys and the numbers along the top of the keyboard only type symbols.  My mouse also seems to act up so that when I click on something it highlights from the top to the point I click on.  I've taken it in to computer repair store where I bought the laptop and they are not sure either.  They reinstalled drivers and bios with no luck...its still happening.  Any ideas?  Is it a bad keyboard?

Just an update- I continue to have this problem.  I had a keyboard replaced, uninstalled HP Support Assistant and STILL continue to have this problem intermittently.  The only fix is to push one ofthe shift keys and then it will stop, but still it is rather annoying.  I too would like someone from HP to HELP!

Spontaneous caps lock/ control key lock

laptop: ProBook4430s
OS: Win7
Updating the keyboard driver fails because there is no newer version

Description of the problem:

While inputting (I believe this is the mode when the problem occurs) caps
lock or the control key remains depressed. I see this condition by
using the onscreen keyboard. My diagnosis: the keyboard map gets mangled.

The 'solution' I have found is to create a new onscreen keyboard.
This resets the caps lock/ control key.

This happens randomly, but too often.

typing away and type all caps even when the caps lock is off. ctrl shift a sets it right again

particular keys do interesting things while in that mode

Thought it was just me, then I googled  and foudn the exact issue on the exact same computer!!! Coindicence?

Some months gone from the original post - have people found any solutions?

Why have we not got a response from HP

I continue to have this issue.  At this point I've learned to live with it, but it is still rather annoying. HP - if you have a fix for this, we'd all really appreciate it!

Here's a solution that I found on a Microsoft Community forum for a problem very simiiar to yours:

You may activated one of Windows Accessibility options (Control Panel > Accessibility Options) - probably Filter Keys.

While you're in the Accessibility Options dialog, you may want to disable the settings that allow you to turn on StickyKeys and FilterKeys by pressing Shift repeatedly (clear the check box for "Use shortcut" in both dialogs).

Also, there's a little known setting at Control Panel | Keyboard | Languages | Details | Key Settings that allows you to use the Caps Lock key like Shift Lock on a typewriter keyboard. You turn it on by pressing Caps Lock but turn it off with Shift.

Reverse Shift Key Function

The instructions given by y2ken do not work on my Win7.

I was able to get to these parameters via another route.  But::::

StickyKeys and FilterKeys are NOT turned on on my machine, and ...

... I still have that problem intermittently.   :Crying:
