Windows 8 has not been officially released, so you must be using a test or beta build. There is no support for this version.
I would suggest installing the official release of Windows 8 at the end of this month.

Try this driver http://goo.gl/2TjIP which appears to be version 2.1 (stable)

I downloaded the .cab file you suggested and tried to reinstall the card reader using that driver. Windows 7 keeps telling me I already have the latest driver installed and will not install any other drivers. This one included will not install. Any further suggestions ?

You may have to wait until after the 26th of this month when the official version of Windows 8 is released, then see if there is an updated driver release. I don't have any other suggestions at this time.
