Hi all, I have a HP Envy M6-1158ca, and recently my Built-in display stopped working. I plugged it into an external display via HDMI and it showed no input. It seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows either, as usually whenever my laptop boots into windows, the fingerprint scanner blinks letting me know I can now sign in using it. I am extremly frustrated with this, and have an unbelieveable amount of stress because this was my only PC. Please respond as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Yes.. i think thats what might have damaged it...Notebook should always be completely powered off with the battery out and ac adapter disconnected while replacing any internal hardware..
Shouldnt be a BIOS problem....but still you can check this link..

Thanks for the fast reply.
I have already done all of these steps avail.
I will however repeat the hard reset step as I am sure that the memory is seated correctly.
Can you please offer any more advice that could fix this problem?
Is it possible that a damaged video cable (the cable that connects to the built-in-display) is causing this?
Please reply as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I just recently did the hard reset again, and it showed no results.
I'm going to bring this up again - it seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows 8 either, as whenever it does, the fingerprint scanner will blink to tell me that i can now use it to sign in.
Please reply as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Yes it could be the cable also..You can try a different cable or even a VGA cable will work if it is a LCD display problem only.
Even if the computer doesnt boot to windows it should show the initial screens if the NB is booting up.
If it is a complete black screen issue without any indications of the startup like -you dont hear the fan or few lights keep blinking continuosly then it may not be the cable but other hardware related problem.

I must also say that I have tried to get into the BIOS of my laptop, of course blindly as I haven't a display to know that I'm doing it properly. It seems as though every time I tried it fails. Usually when I'm in the BIOS, pushing a key will make a beeping noise, which hasn't happened yet.
I will be sure to try using a VGA cable soon, and I will post my results after I have tested this. Seeing as though it's 12:30AM as I type this message, I will try tomorrow morning.
Thanks for the advice, but anymore suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hello again.
I just tried using a VGA cable with the same results, no display.
Just to mention, I do hear the fans and harddrive working, if that is any help.
I also think you misunderstood what I meant by cable.
By cable, I meant the cable that connects the motherboard, or GPU, to the built in display on the laptop.
Please reply as soon as possible, I'm getting extremly anxious as I cannot afford to buy a new laptop.
Thanks in advance

You mean the display cable that connects to the LCD...Its most likely not the display cable otherwise there would have been a display on the external monitor...
As it is not booting up also i am afraid it most likely a hardware issue....Could be graphics card related...If the notebook is still under warranty then i would suggest to call HP Technical Support and they'll be able to get the notebook repaired for you..
