Thanks!

I'll try these things.

Appreciate you taking the time.

My left click button (dv6) has also broken, again not a lot of use.  I'm planning on switching the right and left buttons but after reading the posts it looks like it will only delay total failure.  Has anyone found a reliable repair shop?  The PC is about 90 days out of warranty.

Thanks for any help.

There is no easy fix - you have to replace the whole palm rest - they call it a Top chassis cover assembly - With touchpad.  and its about 80 bucks or so from HP - or you can find one on ebay - but be extra careful to get the right part # else it won't fit.  it doesn't come out as a separate piece.  And you will literally have to take out all but one screw to get it off!  Poor design on HP's part.  I'd opt for an external mouse...save yourself the carporaltunnel...and greenbacks.

My laptop also got this left button problem in last week.  Any solution?

Same problem here I have a pavillon dv6 and my left click buttom broke loose about 8 months ago. I hava this computer for about 3 years now I always take good care of it is always been used at home never been abused. I hope  HP does something about this problem.

i aso have been having thisw problem with the left click button. it just all of a sudden started getting out of place. slides under the framing and i have to slide it back to get it to work. What is the solution besides paying for something that seems to happen to this model a lot. I have a Hp Pavilion Entertainment PC DV6-2043.

I have a 3 year old dv6t-1200with the same problemfor the third or fourth time now. I use itfor scool and have other computers so sending it backisn't much of a problem. But four times it has broken, on the third it collapsed entirely, on all other three times, including this one, has lost support on the left side of the left clicker.Obviously, since i'm out of warrenty, i'm refraining from using it, and using an external mouse. HP's quality assurance was entirely crap on the entire dv6 line.

It is a sad fact that a gaming computer just isn't worth the 1200$ they charge you 😞

I, too, have a Pavilion D6 with this problem.  I thought I was already out of warranty when the click button first started feeling loose.  When I finally called to ask about a solution, it turns out it had still been under warranty when it started but was out a week by then.  I reversed the buttons to use the right click as the left click, and like many others, found this only a temporary solution as it soon broke as well.  My son taught me to use the touch pad with a tap - wish I had known that when I first got the computer and it might have prevented the problem on the click keys.  Clearly, with this many users with the same problem, it is a design flaw that HP should take care of.  This was my first HP after many years with Dell - LOVED the computer for the first year, but not now - and reluctant to buy another HP unless they provide better customer care with a widespread problem like this.

I am more than a little upset. I refused to renew the warranties because in Maine, we are guaranteed an additional 3 years above the stated warranty and the cost of the service contract and warranty renewals were more than I paid for the whole computer (after a year).

One day everything is fine, the next day, the left click button is "sitting" in the little space, and can be used if touched lightly, but it's not held on with anything.

And, reading reviews here, it can't be fixed even if I "could" do without my computer for a month.

I agree, this is a ploy to force us to purchase a new computer. I've been known to wear through one in 18 months, but that hasn't happened recently; mine is almost unused, at least 85% of memory intact, I type 120 wpm and I NEED a left clicker ... the thought of having to use a mouse is infuriating.

I can change the settings to get the right clicker to work as the "left," but them I have to struggle with the other side. I've considered superglueing it, but I don't know what that will do to the functionality.

I have another HP somewhere, but I don't know if the keys are interchangable or how to do it.

I have had my Laptop for about 2 years. I have only had a battery problem, which in turn I replaced the battery. Just recently the left click button broke as I pop it in and it pops right back out. I popped out the right button to see if I can pop it back in but now neither of them stay in. To say the least this is very annoying. I am very pleased overall of my purchase of this laptop. I realize things can't last forever. I only paid 300.00 for it. I phoned HP and got the run around as they didn't seem to listen to what I was saying. They were giving me prices for a battery and another parts that I didn't need. I found a computer store in my town and the buttons only cost 19.95, it is the labor where they gouge you. Fifty for labor, which in total is $60 some odd dollars. I have been using a mouse and can continue to do so. Yet my buttons still fall out. Who is to say this won't happen again... Any suggestions, or what would you do?
