Pavilion dm4-1265dx S/N: CNU0502RY9 Product: XZ298UA#ABA Caps Lock LED blinks once every second consistently with no display and CPU fan running at high RPMs. At first, I received a message that the machine was in thermal shutdown. After allowing the machine six hours to cool, the Caps Lock LED continues to blink as mentioned earlier. I presume the CPU is toast. I'd like to replace the CPU. What socket is on the mobo?

Hello, I have the same problem. If u can't get it to come on, try this. First Keep mashing (Clicking)  f2 several times , then while doing this, hold down fn, and keep mashing (clicking)  f2 a few times. Then, continue to do both at the same time, and power on pc. Mine came right on each time I did this. It don't fix the problem but maybe, u can run some test to find out. If u find out what it is please let us know. Thanks

I have the same problem. To get my computer to load. I kept hitting the f2 key a few seconds, then, help down fn while continue hitting the f2 key a few times, then, continued both while powering on pc and to my surprise it came right on. It's not a computer fix, but maybe it will let you back on it. Good luck. If u find the problem please let us know. Thanks

It means your motherboard is dying.  It cold just be dust shorting out a circuit on the mb as well.  Try some compressed air in the air vents.  Might free up the dust & getter weking fer u again.  Ya might as well try it & c what happens.

Let me know.

/You're welcome.

I thank you for posting the replies. The problem is either the board or the cpu. Dust won't create a short circuit unless it contains conductive material. I believe surface dust may accumulate around the outside the vent and block it, but, upon visual inspection, I see no dust. Because there is no fan pulling air into the case I don't see how dust can travel beyond the immediate vicinity of the vents and onto the mobo. Pressing F2 will not force a machine to function if it is locked out on a thermal shutdown, which is the case here.

this has been driving me mad sent it to the doctor he rebuilt parts of windows and it worked fine for about 5 starts then it happened again, now i have to let the battery run out then plug in the power cable and it starts up

but if i shut it down after that i have to do the same again to make it start

what the seems to me this is not an isolated event

I just bought a HP Pavilion DM4-2015dx laptop a few days ago.  Turning it on this morning, it won't boot and the Caps Lock light  is blinking.  I have searched the HP site and Google for a solution to the problem and have found nothing to tell me what the blinking light means or why it won't boot up.  Does anyone have an idea of what the blinking light on the Caps Button means?
