twice in 5 months man and it was the videocard both time - which means the motherboard needed replacenment. i am not even a gamer...and this seems pretty normal for HP laptops to me. the saving grace however has been the customer services so far.

Try getting in touch with a case manager in your area. it's helped me so far and i hope it does for you too.

Same problem here. I wrap the laptop up until it overheats and shuts down. It will then reboot.

What can I do to fix this? I don't think I should have to wrap it and cause the shutdown. This procedure takes about 20 - 25 minutes.

What is HP's solution?

After all the struggles, this worked perfect for me. That extra f10 hitting I believe what did the trick for me.

Thank you and may God Bless you.

My DV6-7029wn /fan came on loud , shut down a couple of times. took to computer man to have fan cleaned and when he turned it back on had black screen blinking caplock key and wireless light orange. It blinked one blink every 2 seconds continuously. We replaced the mother board and the processor and the same thing, blink oveer and over. Ive given up and gave him the laptop for the fees. But then i thought about as a last resort asking on this forum. What else could it be? Tested memory ok. What else could it be if not motherboard and processor?

Also reading this forum I did not understand how you can update the bios in a black screen computer .

I also tried the trick where you take the battery out and hit the power button then plug in and hit power on, didnt work.

Exact same problem, F2 did nothing and I even replaced the motherboard and processor and plugged up the power button with nothing else attached and it did NOTHING but blink so what is left? Only CAPS lock key blinks once every 2-3 seconds.

I wrapped the laptop and waited for the computer to shut down. I determined from HP's webdite that the problem was the CPU from the "blink" pattern. I phoned HP Supprt for confirmation. Anew motherboard would cost over $200, so I went to my local Staples store and bought a new entry level laptop. I also bought a 32 Gig USB stick for $13 in order to transfer data from the old laptop to the new one. I was advised  that the life of a laptop is about 4 years. Now, if I could learn how to keep Ask.com from getting onto our computers!

Well if it shorted OUT the computer why would blowing dust out help at all if it is already shorted out, sounds like mother board would have to be replaced at that point?

Hey my response to that is Kudos. I was also INVADED BY ASK.com and got a popup to participate in a Forsee Survey for Ask.com and CHEWED them OUT for being so invasive!

Hello everyone,

I understand the computer will not start, and your Cap Locks light is blinking repeatedly. The issue is hardware related, but I will do my best to assist you. The best troubleshooting for this issue is locating in this HP document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps

The document can help by providing information on how to reset the notebook, and how to identify the root cause of the issue. I encourage you to look at this document. If you cannot resolve the issue, I would contact HP phone support for hardware assistance. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
