Ok I am extremely aggravated especially after reading so many other hp loyal customers is also having the left hinge problem! It has to be a recall of some sort! Very unhappy customer with my left hinge broken and in my third semester towards my bachelor degree with no laptop! #ANGRY How can you charge me for something that everyone is having the same issue with just not fair hp just not fair!

HP have already been through a major recall for the same problem several years ago. You would thought they would have learned. They are burying their heads in the sand. Hinges, particularly left hinges are breaking which is causing the entire screen to break and rip internal connections. This is a known problem, yet HP are blaming the consumers. 

I would keep on insisting they replace the broken items, and at some point HP will get sued and have to offer a replacement all over again. 

This is obviosuly known to them, there is 30 pages of complaints on this forum alone, imagine how many people do not complain and don't understand its a fabrication issue.

I saw some postings that HP fixed it for free. I wasn't so lucky. They wouldn't do it for free. It depends on who talked to you at that time. I went ahead and paid for the $250 repair after I learned that my credit card (CapitalOne) would automatically extend the warranty for another year. I know American Express would double the warranty too. I got paid by my credit card while my laptop is being fixed.

The more people that pay for the repair the more enabled HP become. Obviously this is a major problem that HP are hoping to forget about until someone makes them under a court order. In one incident I had, my son burned his thigh after the battery became so hot . I complained to HP and they had their head of safety call me. She was very helpful and explained that a laptop was not meant to sit on your lap and I should discourage my son from putting it on his legs. He learned the hard way, however she then became my point of reference to HP

I phone her and copy her on all my emails with all the problems I have with HP, just so I can say that a senior executive at HP has been informed and on what date. 

HP has had this problem before, it is only one of two reasons, either a bad design flaw or a bad component. Most inges that break are the left hinge which is either because most people open the cover with their right hand. Uneven pressure put on the hinge at opening will weaken the spring causing uneven wear and ultimate premature failure. Equally, the machine used to attached the hinge on the left or right have been set at uneven torque pressure making the opening stresses uneven again causing failure.  Whichever it is, this is not happening in isolated cases and there should be a general recall to fix these computers but of course they are hoping once the warranty is over , its your problem ..

I think it also has to due with the fact that the vent is also on the left causing the metal hinge to expand. I found that I can temporarly fix this hinge issue by opening the lid to a certain angle so that the hinge is flush and then tighten the left hing screw. This lasts me a few weeks before the screw becomes loose again.

Done with this. I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series Touchscreen Laptop | Intel Core i7 | 4GB Graphics | 1080p.  I will never buy HP again, and if you look you will see my name all over your registrations. Not anymore. Too much money for something that breaks so easily. Thanks, but no thanks.. Broken Hinge.

Hi. I have a HP laptop which i purchased in October 2014 from Argos. However during moving house Ive lost the box and receipt. The hinge is broken and now i have a virus. Help!
