The laptop stays on when I keep it slightly opened so that the backlight isn't on still. When I open it till the back light comes on, the laptop switches off ( goes blank). And when I open the lid again the laptop switches on automatically and goes blank as I mentioned when the backligh just comes on.

Hello @zad11 ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you're having issues with the screen going to sleep and not waking up.

I assume you're goal is to keep the notebook running for movies, downloads, etc... To do this properly change the following settings:

  1. Press Windows Key + X.
  2. Click "Power Options".
  3. Click "Choose what closing the lid does."
  4. Set the "When I close the lid" dropdown for "Battery" or "Plugged in" to "Do nothing."
  5. Click Save changes at the bottom.

"Partially closed" isn't a mode or setting that can be set, monitored or tested as the Windows operating system supports power settings and display settings for the lid being closed or open.

Let me know if this helps. 🙂

Thank you for the reply.

My problem is not as simple as that. When I say the laptop switches off, the laptop goes OFF suddenly (it doesn't even shut down). It is as if the power supply to the machine is cut off. I am suspecting a short circuit in one of the wires connecting the LED screen. It is completely a hardware problem. I tried changing the reed switch, it didn't sove the problem.

I am becoming quite annoyed with the macnine. Will appreciate if you could help.

Hi zad11,

I am sorry to know that you are experiencing issue "Notebook Switches off when the back lid is on".

May I know if you have tried performing a hard reset on your machine. If not, request you to perform the same.

Hi RV_Techpro24. It is impossible to make a hard reset. The laptop power offs when the LED screen comes on.
