The wifi button is orange while booting up. It turns blue for a second and back to orange. When windows is running the button is still orange and if i push button twice it will turn on. Only after I push button twice. This is something new. I reinstalled windows and it did not fix it. I am running windows 7 home on a Compaq Presario CQ60 US420. I tried 4 times to reinstall the driver and it does not fix it. The bios has know option to check and see if it is not defaulted to be on.

Hi,

As reinstalling the OS has failed to correct the problem, it's unlikely this is being caused by a misconfigured service or application - did it still occur from the moment initial Image was recovered or after Windows updates/service pack had been applied?

You mention that this is a new issue.  Was there any event you can recall after which this behaviour started?

Do you have HP Wireless Assistant installed?  If so, make sure all devices it controls are set to On and then uninstall the application.  Reboot and see if this has made any difference.

Regards,

Hi,

With this sort of issue, it's always worth trying a Hard Reset as follows.

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as soon as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Regards,

No.  reset did nothing different. After the bios hands over to the operating system but before the operating system loads up to a useable state the light goes from orange to blue then back to orange. I still have to click on button twice before it will turn blue and get me on the wifi. this is weird. I can only hope someone can figure this out. Would it be in services auto exe bat? some place the operating system has control of. As the window logo comes together it turns blue and back to orange by the time the logo is finished .

As you asked me what was the last thing I did. I removed the wireless Assistant. I did have vista at that time.

I reinstalled vista. I then put the upgrade of Windows 7 on top of it. I thought it was one of the many updates from windows but it never was. I looked at windows 7 download software and never saw the wireless assistant so I downloaded it from the vista side. I installed it and rebooted. When it booted up it was orange and the Assistant said off so I clicked button and it said disabled. So the two options were off or disable. I looked up at top of that pop up and it said turn on so I clicked on it and rebooted. It worked. Thank you.

I never gave up and you had the experience the experience that help me figure it out.
