Hi there @D1ru

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are having trouble with your notebook recognizing the optical drive. I am happy to help with this.

Is it a built-in drive, or external?

What exact error are you seeing?

Do you have the full product number for the LIghtscribe drive?

As a start you may find this page useful: Troubleshooting CD/DVDs

Depending on the error you are seeing, something should help. Also for your convenience, here is the driver page for your notebook, in case an update is necessary. HP G70-457CA Notebook PC Drivers

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your help.. The lighty scribe is built in... I don't get any error. If I put a DVD or a CD into the drive it tries several times to open it and then finally just stops. I don't know how to find the product number for the optical reader

If the drive still does not appear in Windows, then take a look at this page:

CD/DVD Drive Is Not Detected (Windows 7)

If the drive does not appear in the BIOS, then there is a fault of some sort, and you may want to try calling  our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

Hello Malygris1
Thank you for your response.
I used the "CD/DVD Drive is Not Detected (Windows 7)" and printed off all the instructions (17 pages). I followed the instructions and located the Drive TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633M ATA Devicer but it had a yellow exclamation mark beside it. In Device Manager with a Code 19 message about the register being changed. I skipped to Step 6 as recommended:
"Testing for Hardware Problems Using Hardware Diagnostic Tools (Windows 7).

I then printed off the instructions found there (11 pages).
I clicked Start, All Programs and looked for PC Help and Tools but it does not appear on the list... I checked it twice.

That is as far as i've gotten... Can you help?

If the option is not appearing in the menu structure... for some reason, then you can use the process for when windows will not open; it is partway down this page: Testing for Hardware Problems Using Hardware Diagnostic Tools (Windows 7)
