Hello again Jaychynn,

Thank you for the update on your issue. I am sorry that the steps did not work. I am going to get you to try them again, but ensure that you are running the Command Prompt in Administrator Mode. I am providing the steps to do this below:

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the Search programs and files box, type cmd.
  3. Right-click CMD, and then click Run as administrator.
  4. At the command prompt, type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes, and then press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type exit to exit the Command Prompt window.
  6. Restart the computer.

This time the steps were taken directly from a Microsoft Support document: About how to troubleshoot power plans in Windows 7, which has a large number of steps you can take to troubleshootin your Power Plans in Windows 7. If the steps I have indicated do not work please review the document for additional information and steps to assist in resolving this issue.

Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you again for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find your product number. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this and the product number we can provide you with accurate information.

How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Which Windows operating system am I running?

Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Hello again Jachynn,

I am sorry that did not resolve your power plan issue. I am going to approach this from a different direction. Lets check the battery and make sure is is functioning correctly and is correctly calibrated to your computer. To do this I would like you to follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7). This document will have to test and ensure your battery is calibrated correctly.

If you could repost the outcome of this it would be appreciated. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Hello again Jaychynn,

To restore your Balanced PowerPlan you can try the commands I am providing below:

***NOTE: All custom PowerPlans will be removed

Step 1. Click Start

Step 2. Type "cmd" in the Start search box

Step 3. Hit ENTER
Step 4. Type "powercfg –restoredefaultschemes"

Step 5. Hit ENTER.

This will restore the default PowerPlans that your computer originally came with, which should include your Balanced PowerPlan.

I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
