Provided they have verified the issues on your laptop and it's still under warranty. Then of course they will fix the problem for free.

thanks for reply, i hope that they fix my problem like you. i tell them that there is a bug on mediatek wifi card and for a user ( you 😄 ) they have changed wifi card and their answer was : "It's not possible that hp changes wifi card with another type"

I was experiencing frequent connection drops(every few seconds) whenever the signal was anything lower than 4 bars on my brand new HP Envy Touchsmart 14 k011TU Sleekbook. This model, like others in the TS 14 series, uses the Mediatek MT7630E adapter.

This driver update seems to have solved the problem as I havent had a single connection drop since updating

The link you provided has even older driver versions for x64, than HP site has.

I tried this after installing the HP update which did not work for me. After the HP update the driver version displayed was 5.0.25.0 while this updated it to 5.0.27.0. I'm happy this has fixed the problem for me. Wish you luck in finding a solution to yours.

@Bijoy80,

I'm glad the issue with the wireless connection on your HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k011tu Sleekbook is resolved.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post back.

@igorm__,

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial notebook. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .

I hope this helps.

Thank you,

I worked on behalf of HP.

How is your Centrino card working, OK? I've just put my new 6 week old HP Pavillion TS 15 Notebook in for warranty service on the Mediatek MT7630E Wifi card which fails to find any wifi networks and have been told they will be replacing this with the same card and be returned in 1 month as no cards available in Australia. How did you manage to get a suitable replacement card accepted and installed by HP?

Mediatek MT7630E seems to be very unstable. Guess it is the problem with Windows 8.1 since with 8.0 there was no dropping connections. Now with 8,1 the best it can stay up is 5 min. HP did offer to replace with RT series card from Mediatek again but utrned down the offer since it  is again another Mediatek product and you never know.

Currently what I have done is to buy a DLink DW123 Wirelss N adapter and plugg into the USB port. Please make sure to disable the Mediatek MT7630E adapter otherwise it will pull down the DLink also.

No solutions are in sight neither from Microsoft nor HP nor Mediatek for now.

Ive had exact same issue ... HP Probook 450 G1 ... 2 weeks old ... running Windows 7 Prof. ... I did the following after reading various forum "remedies" :

  1. updated BIOS
  2. updated driver from HP site.
  3. Changed power settings on the Mediatek adapter
  4. Searched Microsoft for answers
  5. Searched Mediatek for answers
  6. Upgraded router firmware
  7. Tested in 2 different networks.

Conclusion:

Mediatek support sucks!

HP Support equally slack ... apparently they have never heard of this issue!! .... even though the forums are well documented with this complaint.

In 2 weeks of dealing with this issue I have not had one remedy make any diffence.

... I'm about to try the only remedy left ... swop the HP out for a brand that cares about its users... I run a LeNovo parallel with the Probook 450 ... no issues ... my colleage runs a DELL on same network ... no issues .... maybe time to change ... preferably a brand that does not make use of Mediatek hardware.

Hi,

The Mediatek Wifi card is very unreliable (from personal experience). As my Pavillion laptop was brand new and still under warranty I insisted with HP support that it be replaced with an Intel Centrino card, which they did. Part no. 670290-001 (SPS-WLAN 802.11 BGN 2x2 COMBC). Unit works perfectly.

Cheers.
