I am using a HP Pavilion g series with Win7 Pro, and am using an HP Wireless Mouse x4000. For the past week or more I have had to press the left-mouse button for it to work. I checked it out in the Control Panel, and it says that it is operating ok. I have also run several anti-virus scans of my complete system with no viruses. I have cleaned the contacts and changed the batteries, but still have same problem. The laptop and mouse were purchased new, last April.
So, is there something I can do that hasn't already been done? Or maybe the mouse has just become defective. Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks, Terry

Terry57,
At this time I feel the mouse needs to be replaced as well. Safe mode is an environment where the most basic drivers are used to allow windows to function. In other words it eliminates all other aspects that could have been contributing to the problem. Because the issue occurs in and out of safe mode and on another computer, I believe the mouse needs to be replaced.

Hello Terry57,
I understand you state your HP mouse is not working properly, is that correct? I will be more than happy to help you with this issue.
Have you synced the mouse with another computer desktop or laptop to see if the same issue occurs? If you have not and you have the option go head and test that out and see what happens.

Thanks

Hi!
I tried the wireless mouse with my desktop PC which uses XP Pro 32 bit. The left-mouse button works fine! So, the problem must be on my HP Pavilion laptop w/Windows 7 Pro. What do I do next to get the mouse to work with the Pavillion laptop?
Thanks, Terry

Terry57,
Thank you for that information.
1. Shut down the computer
2. Locate the F8 key on the keyboard
3. When you turn the computer on immediately tap the F8 key
4. It should load you to a black screen with a list of options
5. Toggle down to safe mode with networking
6. It will load to a screen where everything is larger than normal
Test out the mouse in this environment, and show how it works there.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
Thanks

Hi,
In my last correspondence re: the left-mouse button, I said that it seemed to work fine on another PC. Shortly after I said that, it started acting up again on the other PC. The left-mouse button has to be repeatedly pressed at times, and at other times it works fine.
I did try your last suggestion though - booting the Pavilion laptop into "Safe Mode with Networking." The mouse had the same problem in Safe Mode.
So, it seems the wireless mouse is defective after all. However, I will check my em-mail to see if you have any other suggestions. Thank-you for your follow-up on this issue!

Terry57,
Not a problem at all. If you have any questions or come across any issues don’t hesitate to ask.
Have an excellent weekend.

I have been having the same problem using the HP mouse with my HP ENVY Phoenix running Windows 8. This is the second time that I am having it replaced while still under warranttee. I think that the whole model line is defective. The contact wears away or developes corrosion. The line should be replaced with one that does not have this problem.
