sure glad it worked for you.   it does not always turn out successfui.   seems like HPs have a basic design problem ...it seems to be too too often that this happens to HP laptop owners.

same problem. solved. 3-4 days old laptop. Should it happen for something this new?
If yes, how to avoid it?

sorry to hear your plight  I know its frustrating.  have you tried the HP recommended actions of removing the battery and unplugging  the ac adapter then holding the power button down for like a minute.   then plug  ac adapter in and see if it will come on??  anything unusual about the last time you shut it down correctly???   is it still in warranty???  if so take it in for warranty repair.

what is the model number of the laptop and have you tried removing one stick of memory at a time to see if it will power up due to a faulty memory module??--this one is kinda unlikely but may as well try it too.

does it even try to boot but then immediately shut back off==i.e. do you hear the cooling fan at least start up.???

if you dropped it  maybe you jarred a memory module loose.  check that all modules are well seated ...might not hurt to remove and reinstall just in case.   so if it was in sleep mode.   if you remove the battery and unplug the ac adapter   would that not take it out of sleep mode and power if off.   I hate sleep mode   on some laptops I can never wake it up with out just until  holding the power button down to force a power off.  then turn it back on ....

not sure what else to suggest,,,what is the model number   and is it still in warranty.  do you get any light like battery charge and ac adapter led showing ac adapter working.    caps button light on>

yes   hp laptops as you can see from all the same post have a basic design problem thats my opinion.   if its new   take it in and get it fixed under warranty.   anything funny about how it shutdown last???  what is the model number and how old is it??

Brand new, for that case. Not even a week old. Nothing abnormal during last switch off. Absolutely normal. But the next time around, this peculiarity and a still peculiar solution, which actually worked. Should I avoid it and repeat the procedure every time it happens, or is it something which is meant to be mended as soon as possible? What can happen at max?

although I have two Hps ,,,I would stay aw way from them and go with Dells or Toshibas.   ask HP to tell you what your replacement options are   since it performs so unreliably.  eventually it may not be recoverable
