Pavilion 17 - G103DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have owned a Pavilion 17 - G103DX for a little over a month; got it for Christmas.  Recently, I have been unable to get into the system due to receiving a NTFS file error, and then after auto report a Fat_File_System error.  Recovery doesn't work.  I have tried both a DVD and USB recovery program, and it only takes me so far before the error comes up again.  Any help solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @donschrum,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!

I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 17-g103dx Notebook and issues with NTFS file error. Run the Hardware Test in HP Advanced System Diagnostics and let me know if anything fails.

Sometimes restoring the BIOS defaults to factory settings will help. Here is a link that could help you do that.

Please let me know how this goes.

Thank you for replying.  I tried to reboot the bios; however I got the same error.  I did run the full diagnostic, and I received the following error regarding the hard drive:

Failure ID:  64LFWW-7T7816-MFPWLK-6OTM03

Product ID:  P1A79UA#ABA

Due to the File_system error and NTFS error, the system won't even let me boot up from my usb recovery drive without crashing.  Any other suggestions you may have would be greatly welcomed.

Hey @donschrum,

This error 64LFWW-7T7816-MFPWLK-60TM03 is Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure. What that means is your Hard drive is failing. This is why you can not load the OS.

I recommend  the first thing you should do is back-up all your personal files etc as soon as you can.

Try performing a hard reset.

When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.

Here is a Video that might help. It shows you how to reseat the HDD, which sometimes helps.

Well it appears I am out of luck on this.  The hard reset didn't work.  The company I bought the computer from won't honor repairing or replacing it because it is past 14 days, and it seems my daughter didn't register it when she first fired it up.

Can someone at least tell me the hard drive model of a HP Pavilion Notebook 17 - g103dx, so I can purchase a new one and repair the laptop myself?

I looked up the warrenty information, and it states I have Wty: HP HW Maintenance Offsite Support.  Would this allow me to get a new harddrive replacement without having to pay for it?  If so, what steps would I need to take?

Hi Don,

Technically your computer is still under warranty.  You can call HP 1-800-474-6836. Please provide your computer's serial and product number upon calling the number I gave to you. State that you already had a failure ID with you.

Thanks.

I was able to contact support today.  I have to send the computer back, which I'm not real happy about, but it needs to be repaired.  The support site had been down for maintenance, so it took me a bit before I could see it was under warranty.  Anyway, the box should be here in a couple of days I can get the computer fixed.
