Yes I have disabled the secure boot and enabled leagacy boot. Should I disable the legacy boot?

HP Recommended

So, it sounds like it is not recognizing the usb FDD as a FDD.

No, you have to enable legacy boot or it will only boot from the HDD.

It is enabled by default. What am I supposed to do now? 😞

Seems this is going to be a long discussion 😮

The BIOS settings to install and run W7 is that secure boot is off and legacy mode is on.

See this link for more info...I'm thinking you have the BIOS settings right or you wouldn't be able to boot from the DVD

What I can't understand is why the driver window isn't showing up with the FDD plugged in and why windows can't ID your USB FDD as a FDD.

Using a usb flash drive, I got the same message as you (could not ID the type of mass storage device).

But with a USB FDD, it knew what it was right away.

I have set the first boot device as DVD or CD-ROM and the legacy mode is on and secure boot is off.

May I slipstream again and burn it again into a DVD and try it.

HP Recommended

That might be a good idea.

Shouldn't you be using a CD and not a DVD for XP?

My XP disks are all CD's.

Oh I have tried burning it on a DVD. Let me try to burn it on a CD and try this again. Sorry let me do that by tomorrow and post the results. :generic:

I tried these steps a lot. But, this didn't work for me. Might work for others. I am staying with Windows 8.1 for a while and I will continue finding some other ways. If I find the solution will immediately post the solution in this thread. Thanks to

You're most welcome.

Sorry nothing worked for you.

Windows 8.1 isn't so bad.

It is certainly an improvement over Windows 8.
