HI guys,

 

I have a resolution for this problem; if you are willing to try it.  It involves a BIOS update to remove the whitelist that HP enforces.

If you decide to take this on, Id strongly suggest you make a USB flash BIOS as a backup in case the flash fails.

 

I can confirm that the BIOS whitelist removal worked successfully on my machine: DV7-3008tx Win 7 x64 SP1.

I will take a look at the link and see if it's something I want to try. I don't want to mess up my machine, so I will have to be cafeful. It is unfortunate that we have to resort to such contortions just to bring our machines up to date. Are you listening HP??

When you say nothing worked what do you mean? I updated my BIOS successfully and I installed an upgraded card no problem. Be aware that if you have a wireless card that has inbuilt bluetooth as well (as I did) you will have to remove the existing Bluetooth module that is installed when the laptop ships as they can conflict with each other in terms of interrupts. Its easy enough to do and doesnt involve removing the keyboard; only the front speaker cover.

It is no doubt risky to flash the BIOS, but in reality no more risky than flashing the same BIOS with one supplied from HP. At the end of the day, flashing the BIOS (HP or modded) is the same thing...

I actually found a wireless card that works and has the 2.4 and 5ghz....

 

Ralink RT3592 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi Adapter

 

I ordered it and got it and currently have been using it for almost a year now.. love this card and love my 5ghz
