Hello HP Experts,
My laptop model is E073SG(Intel HD 4000 and AMD 8670M ). Below are points you need to understand before addressing the issue:
1)Even after BIOS update, I am not getting switchable graphics option. My laptop specs says switchable graphics is equipped. Then what is the point in checking documents to prove that. These documents gives just overview of switchable and fixed graphics. This is not solving the issue reported here.
2)AMD Driver given in HP site is very old. Driver date is 25-02-2013. When checked in AMD site, I see the note saying latest driver is not applicable for the notebooks equipped with switchable graphics. How you are going to address this?
@Friends facing similar issue: My Windows Experience Index score is 5.6. Please share yours. This is just to compare.
Believing the laptop specs we buy the laptop and it is HP's duty to support us. I feel this is cheating. Why should I pay 600 Euros for this product which is not worth it.
@ HP: I am sure this issue was identified by you already. Please accept and do the fix. Dont try to convince us to accept the defective product/software. FYI I am coumputer science graduate and I know where issue arises from.
Regards,
Vignesh.

VigneshSankar, I have the same configuration (Intel HD 4000 and AMD 8670M), but another model.
Amd drivers are 2013-10-25 (Version 13.151.2.0), but switchable grafics don't work.

I have the same problem, but with different cards, double AMD- Radeon 8330 and Radeon 8670M 1GB. Of course the one dedicated doesn't work...
I've done everything this topic says but that didn't helped. I even reinstalled windows and done it twice. Still nothing. I guess it's time to give notebook back and get my money. But who will give me back money for the gasoline I've spent going to buy it and now going to give it back...
It's my first time using HP, I was hoping for very good product, but I did received crap. That's scandalous for me, really.

Hello everyone. I will attempt to explain the switchable graphics subject on the HP 15-e073sg. For now, I will originate my analysis on the presumption you are utilizing the Intel HD 4000 and AMD 8670M, along with the Intel HM76 chipset. Just to be on the cautious side, this website contains the specifications of this computer: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03871336
I'm going to begin by asking you to perform a simple test. Go into Device Manager, and look at your Display Adapters. You should locate two entries; one for iGPU (integrated graphics processor unit) and one for dGPU (discrete graphics processor unit). If both entries are present, then there is a possibility of switchable graphics present.
Next, I believe you should understand that there are multiple revisions of AMD switchable graphics. It's important to acknowledge that the Intel HM76 chipset + Intel HD 4000 is categorized under revision 5.0. It's additionally characterized as utilizing muxless switchable graphics. Basically, the term "muxless" implies that all display device handling utilizes iGPU. You will only be able access options and features for iGPU.
Since you are utilizing revision 5.0 graphics, the AMD Catalyst Control Center is extremely useful. It's usefulness is outstanding in terms of graphic controls. However, depending on the environment, the utility will be more useful to certain people over others. If you do not possess the program, you can download it online. You will have select control of your graphics utilizing this program. You can utilize it to determine which applications use iGPU and dGPU. You can actually change the assigned GPU on a profile, additionally. A profile is created when a playback application is utilized.
An important factor in revision 5.0 graphics is regarding schemes; fixed ones are no longer available. However, dynamic ones are available.
A final important factor is this: The mode of the computer determines the graphics processor unit. Performance mode will utilize dGPU, while power-saving mode will utilize iGPU. However, these are primary defaults.
This is my simple analysis of switchable graphics on this computer. I am going to provide some additional resources and documentation which further solidifies the content I have discussed, to a certain extend.
Switchable Graphics on Notebooks Configured with Intel and ATI GPUs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03048374
Overview of Switchable Graphics and Dual GPUs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02731962
As I stated, this is only a simple analysis, not an in-depth analysis. I responded to this thread to attempt to eliminate some the confusion surrounding switchable graphics in this situation. I have created this response utilizing solid facts, and my many experiences of the subject, which dates back quite a while. If you have any questions, or would like clarification on a specific topic, please respond to this post.
If you are going to respond to this post, please respond professionally and intelligently, as it will be easier to “get to the bottom of things” (for lack of better terminology). Arguments and negativity will only slow everything down.

Hi Mario
I hope that the following response to your post is professional and intelligent enough for you. It does not help you explaining the working of switchable graphics over and over. It is not like we don't understand it, we are complaining because it doesn't work. And keeping on explaining it does not solve the probem.
Please give us a solution, not an explanation. So if we need to install a previous version of the graphics drivers, then please indicate so. I would really like a solution to this problem!

exactly the same problem with my new system: 3 days old HP Pavilion 15 15-e005sh without OS
I've installed x64 Win8 plus all the drivers from the HP support site. Everything seems to be O.K. until I try to run 3D tests... The performance is not AMD Radeon HD performance...I can not manually switch the graphic, and the automatic method does not work. I've tried leshcatlabs.net drivers, does not really work on this model... Now I have a laptop with a working intel4000 graphic, and with a non-working AMD Radeon HD graphic...
I've tried a clean install: win8 + intel chipset driver + intel MEI driver + intel HD driver + AMD HD driver all form the HP drivers site. In the Power setttings i can set graphic to max performance, but the speed is the same, AMD HD is not working, I can not really switch to AMD Graphic...no BIOS setting for fixed graphic. How can this happen??? If i install a clean system and the drivers from the HP site, the switchable graphic does not work?? Never ever happened to me to be unable to install a working system on a laptop in 2 days.... nightmare.
Update: I've installed AMD System monitor and if I run Simcity 2013, the System monitor says the HD8670M GPU runs at 1000MHz...if I quit from SimCity it goes to 0MHZ... this means the AMD GPU is active I think, but how can be sure? the Windows Experience index says 5.6 for Video performance, and Heaven Benchmark says the garphic is intelHD4000....
11-25-2013 02:48 AM
To be honest I am not sure if it works or not.... I've tried Simcity and NFS and I saw the AMD system monitor shows 1000MHz GPU clock and the games ran perfectly (speed and visual experience) When I closed these games, the GPU clock gone back to 0... Now I can not say it is not working... BUT! If I tried 3D tests, the results were poor, and some test said the the graphic processor is Intel HD4000.... My problem is I CAN NOT BE SURE if the AMD GPU is working, and I can not choose manually between the GPUs. That is why I sold my 2 days old laptop yesterday ( with 20% discount...) and I will never ever buy a laptop with switchable graphic again. I decided quickly after I saw the HP discussion boards posts and replys, and I saw some users has the same problems with different HP models.

You wanna activate your amd 8670m?
then go to device manager and then disable the INTEL HD 4000. then your amd gpu will start working. if all the appropriate drivers are installed there it may work correctly. 🙂

Dear All,
Same problem here also!
Model : HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC 15-E046sv
latest bios F.15
no option in the BIOS for swichable graphics, not possible to make the AMD graphic card to work with the Catalyst sw....
is there any intention from hp to solve the problems ??
is very uncomfortabile to actually perform such a trubleshooting in a brand new device without any help from the vendor(s) (HP or AMD).
Please advise
Regards,
