this software can check webcam if it is installed properly and without installation,very helpfull.
if mic module not working then this is definitly wire problem
if mic module working fine then its defintly sofware problem,driver,usb conflicts,operating system bug or very rarely webcam is dead!

I just used my thumbnail to seperate it, right at the top by the webcam. I have a dv7-6c95dx. Once it separates a little, just pull it apart gently. I used a small flathead screwdriver to push the connector completely into place. Then just squeeze the bezel back together and it should snap closed.

@ dloucks you could try using something like a thick guitar pick.
