Hi D4vie

I understand you Pavilion dv6 will power on with the battery but not when the power cable is connected.

Here is a url for testing the AC Power Adapter. It is for a dv6 but there are several models but the steps would be the same.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00363266

Please provide the following information so I can assist you better.

What is the full name of your computer?

What happens when the laptop is on from the battery and then you connect the power cable to it?

Is the computer in a docking station?

I have the same problem.  Blinking Caps lock light, no video, Wireless light stays on, and there is a red light by the usb port next to the power port.  External monitor gets no video.  I have reseated the memory, tested each stick in each slot, both alone and together.  Reseated the hard drive and power to system board.  Any hope for this one?

Hi Girtechsc,

I understand you are getting Blinking Caps Lock button on your Pavilion Dv6.

If you follow this document it will help point you in the right direction.

Make sure you remove any USB devices during the procedure.

My Pavilion suddenly hangs up at startup. When starting, it first goes to the screen that gives a choice between loading repair files or starting Windows (7) normally. If you take load repair files, the files supposedly load and the Windows 7 startup screen is shown with 4 colored dots merging into the Windows symbol and the "Windows Starting" message is displayed. The Windows symbol glows with the 4 colors, but there is no progress -- it is frozen.

Taking the "Start Windows Normally," brings up the same "Windows Starting" screen but no repair files are loaded.

The system is again frozen.

I received the HP Disk Repair CDs (3 disks and one driver repair disk) and they get me to the "Windows Startup" screen and then it freezes like all other attempts at starting.

HP techs were completely baffeled after I called them.

Any ideas on how to start the frozen, 14 month-old notebook?

This document includes the steps for finding, downloading, and installing updates to BIOS. This should resolve the freezing on Windows logo, also make sure nothing is plugged into the device when trying to boot like external hard drives iPods or music devices.
