Hi I have found a thread from a previous question but it is very extensive and I cannot get any joy from the post so I have decided to ask again on this page.
Would anyone kindly give me any help on how to get my HP Pavilion DV6 to play Bluray? I tried to download an update for the HP DVD player but when I put the bluray in, it does not recognise any cd in the drive, it is just blank.
I am using windows 7, and the information I can find about my laptop is as follows:
ATI Radeon HD 4530 series
driver 8.635.0.0
Many thanks in advance
Anthony
(the dvd is skyfall 007 !)

Hi Anthony,
I think this explains the problem as the optical drive you have isn't capable of playing Blu ray. From what I've seen, the HP version of PowerDVD 10 will only install on a notebook with a Blu ray drive.
To reinstall HP MediaSmart DVD, use Recovery Manager - the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.
After the reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

Hi Anthony,
If the software you're using to play the lu ray disc is HP MediaSmart DVD, I would suggest trying the following.
HP now provides a version of Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 which seems to be a better solution. Download the latest installer for this on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56904.exe
When the download has completed, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP MediaSmart DVD and select Uninstall - when this process has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer for PowerDVD 10 to start the installation. When this has completed, see if your Blu ray disc now plays OK.

Hi David,
Thanks for getting back to me. I have uninstalled the HP DVD Mediasmart and restarted the notebook. I have double clicked and installed the link for the cyberlink (it saved as a file sp56904) and have tried to install this a few times but nothing boots up once I have went through the set up? Any tips now? Many thanks
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
Can you post back with the following.
1. The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
2. The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ).

Hi Anthony,
You're welcome
The only further suggestion I have is that you could consider replacing your existing optical drive for one that plays Blu ray. Looking at Page 48 of your Maintenance & Service Guide there is a Blu ray option ( Part No. 511882-001 ) for your machine - as you will see from the replacement procedure that follows, it's a fairly straight forward process.
All the best,
DP-K
