From Past 3 days I have been getting the error "Plugged In, Not Charging". Before posting here I did use the search feature and tried to find a solution that might work but nothing worked out for me.
I did the following thing but nothing worked out for me.
- I did remove my battery and reinserted but that didn't worked out.
- I did reinstall Microsoft's ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
- I did follow this http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/plugged-in-not-charging-windows-7-solution/ (Saw lots of people posted this on various threads)
- I tried to charge my laptop from a different location other then my room.
- I did update my BIOS to the latest version from this link
I bought my laptop in October, 2011 from Bangkok and I live in India. I really wanna get this problem fixed as it has started to get a bit annoying.
I hope to get a solution or reply soon.
Thank You.

I think the problem is because of Hibernation but I did a lot of testing and spent a lot of time to get the issue sorted and I finally managed to fix it.
Here is what I did when I got that message at around 93% :
--> I decided to unplug the charge and use my laptop until the battery drained down a lil and said 80% left.
--> Then I left my Laptop switched off for arounf 30 minutes.
--> Then I turned on my laptop and reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
--> Then I restarted my laptop once again and Daang!! It was fixed.
I hope this solution works for anyone having this problem in future.
Thank you for the reply and help.
Cheers,
Udit G.

open the HP Assistant then click on the Troubleshooting button then the Power, Thermal and Mechanical button... run a test on the battery... if battery passes then its the transformer of the charging plugin adapter... sometimes they do burn out and need to be replaced ..... if the battery is poor or fails then the battery needs replaced

At what chargelevel % is your battery when you get the status "plugged in, not charging"?
I've noticed that when the battery charge is at around 97-99% the message you mentioned will be active. Result from when using sleep mode and disconnect ac-power and following day resume from sleep and re-connect ac.
There is some document from HP that states the reset of battery charging circuit involves:
1. running on battery power until less than 30% battery charge left
2. shutdown the computer (not sleep or hibernate)
3. plugin ac-adaptor and let it charge until full, a few hours probably (do not start PC during this time)
When I tried that it has shown 100% charged again.
You might of course have a faulty battery and the above procedure won't have any effect.

Disconnect AC
Shutdown
Remove battery
Connect AC
Startup
Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).
Shutdown
Disconnect AC
Insert battery
Connect AC
Startup

I have Pavilion dv7-1060eo and Windows 7 64bit installed. I had this problem and the one that blinks caps lock and num lock leds four times in a row continously.. I red about these problems and solutions around these forums, but nothing seemed to works. Then i noticed the other hdd i have installed wasn't working too well. Some of the boots it didn't show up and some of the boots it did. I replaced the hdd and everything seemed to be okay, but this charging and blinking.... I noticed that it charged while turned off and plugged in... Then I found out that the replacement hdd was broken from the beginning also, so I took it off and booted with only one hdd and WHOA! Everything started working. No charging issues, and no blinking..

I did this at least 3 times. Each time it was successful and showed the system was charging. However that lasted a whopping 20 minutes and before I knew it, it would show the message " plugged in not charging". I followed the steps again and again it worked for a brief time and then the same message. I ran the HP test and it showed my battery has failed. My question is, how can it be the battery that has failed, when I have my AC Adapter plugged in and the Laptop is not charging. Should it not be the AC Adapter that has failed.
HP would love for me to buy a new battery, since its more expensive...
PLEASE HELP!!! Any Thoughts????

Guys please don't waste ur time trying any of these stupid so-called "tricks".I also had the same problem on my HP DV6-1161tx and the solution is hardware related...you have to replace the part known as CHARGING CONTROLLER IC....Basically it's the part that enables the laptop to absorb the energy being sent to it via charging...If your battery and charger are perfect, you know where your problem lies!!!Hope it solves this once and for all....
