Hey there so I wanted to nuke and boot my notebook which is cool as I have done before and had no problems. I started running dban and it was fine for a little while and then something happened and my computer ended up restarting except now as soon as I get past the hp screen I get the message no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key. I am using dban on usb because my disc drive crapped out and won't play dvds and even after making sure boot order is correct it won't load dban again. Shoud I go out and buy an external disc drive and try running dban as an iso or perhaps even try and install windows to see what happens. I have also tried the hard drive tests in bios and it passed fully so something's there just don't know how to get to it.

Well it is good news that the hard drive test came back ok. If it was supposed to restore the hard drive with the operating system in tact, I suspect this is no longer going to happen. It seems like you will have to use HP Recovery media, or a retail Windows disc to put the operating system back on your computer.
If you don't have a retail Windows disc, or haven't made recovery media, you can refer to this document for instructions on obtaining such media: Looking for HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive?

Hi Imgoinghome. I have never used DBAN before, doesn't it just delete any content that it can detect on the drive? That function would erase the contents of the hardrive, and any structual information, as well as the HP Recovery Partition? Is there another function that it performs?
No bootable device, means your hard drive is probably not formatted as active boot drive, and probably has no OS installed. If you have the recovery media, you can restore the hard drive to factory defaults.
What is the model number of your notebook? What version of Windows is installed?
How Do I Find My Notebook Model Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?

Hi there it's meant to wipe any data off the hard drive and restore the computer to factory settings. I have done it before and it worked fine the problem occured because my laptop battery is stuffed and won't work unless the charger is plugged in. I left it to work while I slept and somewhere during the night the charger came out and the laptop turned off. I checked google and most of the answers said it's okay to just switch the computer off while dban is running. That got me to thinking it could be the hard drive failing although the bios tests say everything is all good there.
Model number is Dv6-6148tx
I was running windows 7 and I believe it was the ultimate version if that makes any difference.

Thanks HPtrueandblue. If you are lucky this may help you resolve it. It is possible that your hard drive needs to be replaced however: Resolve Boot Device not Found Error Message
If it does turn out that you need to replace your drive, you will also have to obtain Recovery Media:
Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive
I know it isn't great news, but I really do hope it helps.
