Pavilion DM1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The Notebook is curently running Windows 7 Professional and I have been running the Windows 10 upgrade.  It goes through the first install and re-boot and then on the second phase when it is installing drivers it gets to 71% and reboots with a blue screen, I think  displaying as ATTEMPTED EXECUTE OF NO EXECUTE MEMORY but it is not up very long so I am not sure and rolls back to Windows 7.  I have tried disconnecting external devices, tried a clean boot, tried updating all the drivers, turning off the wifi and leaving it on a LAN only connection to no avail.  I have managed to updated a desk top pc to Windows 10 with only a little difficulty even though Windows decided the display driver was not compatible, so this is a real puzzle.

Thank you. No, Kaspersky was not installed, and I have never installed it. Is it used by McAfee, as it is sometimes bundled with Acrobat Reader? I installed it once in an update and removed it immediately. Anyway I found this file registered twice in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and in a sub folder, it was not related to any existing process so I deleted it, tried the upgrade again and it completed this time. So for anyone else with this problem look for the file name after ATTEMPTED EXECUTE OF NO EXECUTE MEMORY when the blue screen comes up, which is very brief, and then delete that file. In my case it was kl1.sys. This was not however recorded in the report that appeared after the system rolled back to Windows 7. Problem solved.

It could be a bad memory module

Hold the Windows key and tap R

a run box opens, then type in

mdsched.exe

hit OK

A small window opens, select restart to check memory, see if you get any memory test errors.

Thanks, I have also tried that and it didn't come up with anything.

In other forums I have read this is a driver issue.  Could the chipset driver be the problem? Or is this just that the current Windows 10 release is focussed on upgrading from Windows 8 rather than Windows 7?

There are always bugs when rolling out a new OS, not sure what the solution is, keep watching the forums maybe someone will figure it out.

Thanks again. I have updated the Drivers from the support section of this site and tried again, but the upgrade stopped at the same point (71% installing features and drivers 91%). Maybe it is the type of Window 7 I have.  The Notebook came with Windows 7 Home, and I used the Windows Anytime Upgrade to Professional? (I regret this as the upgrade key does not allow me to download the ISO as a backup, I could have bought a disc with an original version for less.)

I noticed the Blue Screen showed kl1.sys.  This seems to be a Kaspersky driver, but I have never installed it.  How can I get rid of this problem please?
