Hi,

 

I just recently purchased the HP Probook 450 G1 from a retail shop few days ago. The laptop doesn't come with any OS installed so I had to install it myself. The shop had given me the drivers for this laptop which I installed as per their instructions but many of my laptop components are not correctly working. Please find my product details below:

 

Product name: HP ProBook 450 G1
Product number: F4W80PA#UUF
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1

 

I earlier used another HP Pavilion laptop with Vista installed for 3-4 years which I really loved; I never had to take it to support. But with this new Probook one, I am really fed-up. My Wifi doesn't work, don't know if bluetooth exists or not, the mouse trackpad often becomes unresponsive, it shows two graphics cards but not sure which one is correct one (Intel or Raedon). When I check for updates, it shows no updates available. I have searched HP support site for instructions on driver installation but I am totally lost. Apparently there are many types of Probook 450 hardware. I am guessing that the proper drivers may not be installed.

 

Please help or otherwise I have no option but to return this laptop. I am really really unhappy with this!!! :((

 

I will think twice before buying another hp something!

That is great news!

 

The hardware ID you posted is the Bluetooth controller that needs a driver, and this would be the driver for that device.

Hi:

 

Please post the hardware IDs' for the devices in the device manager listed under the Other Devices category with the little ! marks next to them.

 

I will walk you through how to find the one for the wireless card.  Then just repeat the same thing for the other devices.

 

Go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller needing drivers.

 

Then click on the Details tab at the top of the network controller window.

 

Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.

 

Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's).

 

Post the top string of characters that begin with PCI\VEN

 

But before you start doing that, first install the Chipset driver and reboot.

After you install the chipset driver, install the Intel graphics adapter and reboot.

Then install MS net framework 4.0.

For the device drivers which you asked me to install, do I need to uninstall many other drivers I downloaded from HP site before? I installed many drivers to resolve the issues.

You can try installing the ones I posted without uninstalling the others and see what happens.

 

If it were me, I would be reinstalling windows 7 from scratch and starting over installing those first few drivers I posted in that order. 

 

After the last graphics driver, install the IDT audio driver and reboot.

 

Here are the other drivers you need according to the hardware ID's you posted.

Thanks for the driver links. I am going to download them. However I have some more problems I'd like to share with you.

 

1. After I installed the drivers you told me to in your previous response one by one with reboot each time, the last and final reboot suddenly led me to the "Blue screen of death" when Windows was booting. Although that was the only time I saw it, I would like to know if I did anything wrong. After that, I restarted my OS several times and did not see it again.

 

2. I can see (from screen resolution) that my laptop is using the "Intel HD Graphics 4600" card, is there any way to change it to the "AMD Radeon HD 8600/8700M" card? I also want to know what is the difference between the cards and which one is the better one? I want to use that one. Why is there two graphics cards in the first place?

 

3. Anyway, my monitor is showing that I am using a Generic PnP Monitor, is that correct? I grabbed the following hardware id for my monitor: MONITOR\CMN15BC, can you pls suggest me a driver for that?

Notebooks all have generic P & P monitors.  There are no drivers for the LCD displays they put in notebooks.

 

Graphics...The notebook will automatically decide what graphics adapter to use based on the load placed on it.

 

You can check your BIOS and see if you can set the Radeon adapter as the default but I doubt you can.

 

Here is some info on switchable graphics. I do not know if this info is specifically relevant to your PC, but that is all the info I have on switchable graphics.

As far as the glitch installing drivers...sometimes that may occur. 

 

If you do not experience the BSOD happening frequently (like once a month or more often), then I would not be concerned.

Hi Paul,

 

Sorry for my delayed response however, the wifi problem is not resolved. After installation of the driver provided by you, the Wifi button light (physical) blinks for couple of times from orange to white and then shows no connections found in the screen. Please find attached pictures to see what I am seeing on the screen.

Also note that the bluetooth driver fails to install. Find following error prompt.

I kind of having the feeling that the wifi hardware must be broken is it?

Hi:

 

Unfortunately, I do not know what the issue could be, and I suggest you contact HP technical support if your notebook is still under warranty.

 

There is a driver you can try directly from Mediatek for the wireless (not bluetooth).

 

You want the driver from the top group of wireless cards.

Hi Paul,

 

Glad to inform you that my Wifi adapter is working now. I uninstalled all the earlier drivers and downloaded the driver from the Mediatek link you provided in your earlier response. I downloaded the following driver and installed it. I'm right now using the wifi to write this post. At last 🙂 (woof, what a relief)
