I just pulled this out of the closet after buying a tablet---updated it to current patches---noticed after the last update that the laptop had shut down (I leave it on through the weekend for easy use). I paid no attention to the shutdown, figured it was normal.

Last night after leaving the laptop on all day, I opened the screen,  touched the mouse, and it shut down. I felt the laptop and the bottom left was so hot you couldn't touch it! I popped it in the fridge (yes I did 🙂 and started it back up with no apparent problems. I love this laptop (listed in my notes below) and will gladly but a cooler for it; it this necessary? Is something else wrong I don't know about? I've alwys noticed that this model was warm---but geez--it gets blistering hot when left on for a long time.

Any advice given would be appreciated.

Hello compenthusiast,

Your computer is overheating.

It could be that the system needs to be updated or that the fan may not be spinning or that there is a buildup of dust in the system.

Here is a link that will help reduce heat inside the system.

Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Thanks for the reply; I cleaned the vents (as this model doesn't have many). I also elevated the laptop on the front to get it from sitting directly on the desk. It certainly is running quieter--maybe I dislodged some gunk. The short clip did the trick--no overheating since I cleaned and elevated it.
