Thanks mate.
In fact my problem is that, when i play online say, battlefield 1942,i have a warning message that says 'warning connection problems detected.' and lags a lot. while at the same time, bf1942 running on the other laptop runs smoothly, even though i may be downoading on this pc.
i've tried different stuffs, like putting avast on silent mode and ending running software that takes up my bandwidth on task manager, disabling firewall etc, but still same problem.
when i noticed that my pc was connected at 150mbps, i tried tethering from SE Arc S, then it worked fine. no lags.
my internet adsl is 1mbps.
If you could help me out with this, would be great.
I have an Atheros AR5B91 spare(same as in the other laptop), you think it will do on my HP Pavillion G6 2301AX laptop?
Thank you very much anyways.
Regards,

The only way to know for sure would be to try it out. Check in your computer if you have 1 or 2 antennas. I know that the RT3290 is 1x1 but I'm not sure if your computer may have just 1 antenna inside or 2.
I did some research on the AR5B91 you mentioned. It is 1x2:2 which means it has 1 Up, 2 Down and 2 spatial streams. So that is a better card. The pictures I saw of it vary though. Is it a full-sized wireless card or half-sized card? Will it fit in your wireless card bay?
I'm also checking on the technical compatibility now too. I'll get back with you on that as soon as I can. There would be no harm in plugging it in, if it fits and your notebook has two antennas. You'd have to get the driver and try it out.
Use the Download button pointed out here
I also checked on the specific error message you provided. Someone mentioned on this thread to reinstall and update patches. Have a look at the last post on that link.

Hi buddy.
Thank you sooo much for all the info.
I opened the back of my laptop, and found:
Says chip model RT3290-C2. Are these 2 wires the antennas? The Atheros one has 2 wires also.
The Atheros is full sized, i guess :(. Because the Atheros is twice the size of the RT3290 one.

That sounds like the next best step. My advice there (if I may) would be to make sure you check on the return policies with the seller. If you can, buy from sellers who accept open-item returns/exchanges with no restocking fee.
I would be interested to know how it works out for you. Post the results when you get a chance 🙂

Hiii, finally got a fix for the issue i was having with battlefield 1942.
Actually its not a problem with the adapter.
My internet connection is 1mbps and lan connection is 150mbps.
Through different tests i performed from this hp laptop and my other laptop, finally came to the conclusion that the problem is in network between this hp laptop and my router.
I set my router from b/g/n mixed mode to g mode only, and now the game flows like never before. 😄 .
Thanks anyways.

And I've found a fix=) I've been searching through i-net for fix and I've found reply from HP Support center. Seems like a problem is on software side. you've to run regedit and find this string @WirelessMode@ It's set to 3. It's for b/g mode. You have to change it to 7. It's for g/n mode. You can find it with Search in edit. I have done this and set my router to 40mhz band and I've got 150mbps connection with 5.0.35.0 drivers=)
